Garcia is old, and has injury problems. He maybe will play for another year or two. They have to find a QB2 that they are comfortable with taking over as QB1 when Garcia retires on his own, or is forced to retire when his play starts to diminsih. The only one young enough and least spoiled is Johnson, to be groomed. If he doesn't pan out when that time comes, who cares he was a fifth round choice. When you have a very old QB starting, you need to prepare a young back up to eventually take the reins.
If the Cowboys don't win a Super Bowl this year, I can see him remaining with the Cowboys for another year; unless of course his age starts to show. Then they will try to low ball him into a 1 year deal, take-it-or leave it, and he will wind up signing with the highest biddre
