Don't get the big deal about Ellsbury. Hits for a decent average, doesn't blow anyone away with OBP, doesn't have power, is very speedy, decent fielder who makes some flashy plays and has no arm.
Well, I wasn't planning to use the "late at night" excuse, but those trades you're talking about could very well have been agreements in principle that were finalized the next day.
And I'll believe the Yankees source until someone in the Ms organization steps up and calls him a liar.
What exactly are you accusing me of making up, at any rate?
I'm not sure why Smoak was a bigger target for the Ms than Montero. Montero is younger, more upside, and although I guess you can say that Smoak is more "MLB ready," I'm pretty sure that Montero could also hit .205 if you brought him up to the majors today. Montero can also play a more valuable position, C, and I'm sure he can play 1B.
The only thing I can think of is defense, although Montero's supposedly getting better at C and Smoak isn't exactly Keith Hernandez.
When else do they cry foul? Or are you just making stuff up?
The Ms agreed to a deal, then backed out, that's unfair no matter how you try to spin it.
As I'm sure someone else has said, the Yanks don't even offer the highest contract to get many of their FAs...Tex, A-Rod, neither of them got the largest contract offered by NY, but that's where they still went.
Sounds like Juan Pierre.
I know with his switch hitting and good mixture of hitting and defense he got some comparisons to Mark Teixeira.
