Good win and hope you beatdown the raiders... but don't enjoy the top spot for too long. You're coming to Norman soon

I believe in free speech and a free press. However, journalism requires more than cheap popshots like Jenni Carlson wrote for the Oklahoman on Oklahoma St quarterback Reid. College student athletes do not open themselves to personal attacks on their personality bc they play sports. Comment on their game performance...yes. Comment on criminal offenses or academic misconduct/eligibility--that goes with the territory. But this is not a pro athlete, no one is being paid, and a reporter can't go on a misguided character assassination.
Jenni, demonstrated she is the one with a lack of character - not Reid. She is the one who can't stand the heat, and in this story she is the only one deserving it. When I first, saw the video I thought Gundy had lost it. After reading her column, I now applaud him and the fact that the University is backing him. This coming from an OU fan that can't stand the pokes. As a coach he has a responsibility to back his players when they haven't done anything wrong. Coaches go into the homes of high schoolers; look mothers in the eye and reassure them that they will look after their sons. Its good to see Gundy kept his word.
Jenni uses "back stories told on a sly" as her source for much of her article. That isn't journalism. That's tabloid garbage. Jenni in her column referenced the following quote of Reid "'The coaches made a decision," Reid told our Mike Baldwin after the Troy game. "I just have to go with it, get better and get back on the field.'" Jenni Carlson went on to write "There's something to be said for not being a malcontent, but you can almost see Reid shrugging his shoulders as he says those words. Does he have the fire in his belly? Or does he want to be coddled, babied, perhaps even fed chicken? That scene in the parking lot last week had no bearing on the Cowboys changing quarterbacks, and yet, it said so much about Reid. A 21-year-old letting his mother feed him in public?"
Now she could have asked Reid to clarify or comment on what he meant after his demotion; but she didn't. Rather, she speculates on the worst train of thought possible on this quote. Taking it out of context I would argue. He lost his job of course he said he wil have to get better and honor the decision. To say that he is weak or chicken is ridiculous. Note she is the one "yellow" with her failure to question the player, family, teammates, or coaches prior to her article's submission. That is just inexcusable. A high school paper's editor knows you need sources if you are going to character assasinate.
Jenni Carlson admits talking about his mom and chicken has nothing to do with the article. So why go there. And Gundy had it right... what has our society become if you let this type of unfounded, speculation, and personal attacks on collegiate student athletes transpire.
Say Goodnight to St Louis... its now a 2 team race in NL Central between the Cubs and Brewers now both 4 up on the redbirdies
