Walker had a few good years immediately following college in the USFL during the 80s but never amounted to anything spectacular in the NFL playing for the Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles, and Giants (I believe). Plus before the Vikings made the infamous (horrible) trade for Walker from the Cowboys, Dallas did not want to build their team around Walker and they were already wanting to get rid of Walker to rebuild their team from the ground up, which they did with all the draft picks that Mike Lynn (Vikes pres/gm at the time) gave up to the Cowboys. The rest is history - Walker never 'lead' the Vikes to the Superbowl and Dallas using all those draft picks went on to win three s-bowls after Walker left.
pwings brings up a good point - is childress really the coach to take the Vikes to the next level or will he continue to be in over his head as an NFL head coach. Maybe Childress belongs back in the college game.
John D Booty might want to take this opportunity to do everything he can to get ready for next season if he wants a chance to ever play in the NFL. There aren't many college QBs who seem ready to step in any time soon and lead an NFL team.
If the NFL does not continue revenue sharing a small market team or two will be moved to LA, which will probably happen regardless because the NFL is hell-bent on getting a team in LA.
80,000 seats expandable to 100,000 will obviously be versatile for many different events to help support the cost.
It is interesting how these stadiums (Cowboys, Yankees, etc.) some of them huge, are being built during a time when so many people are experiencing difficult times, the economy and housing market are not good, wall street woes, taxpayer money for corporate bailouts etc. But fans are still going to watch their favorite teams so right now the NFL seems to be very strong.
If the players union and owners come to a labor agreement and revenue sharing stays in place the new stadium in Dallas may not be copied because of costs or have any major effect besides at the local level in Dallas. If a collective bargaining agreement is not reached and the salary cap does not stay in place , owners who have major costs of stadium construction and renovation say they will not be able to compete. We'll see.
It is true though that the Bidwells seriously envy the Cowboys (pie tin palace has hole in roof like texas stadium) so much so that when the divisions were realigned Bidwell complained to the NFL that his Cardinals would not make as much revenue because the Cowboys wouldn't be playing in Phoenix every year. So the NFL appeased Bidwell and gives the Cardinals home games against the Cowboys (& NFC East), even Vikings, and Packers (because of all the midwesterners that live here and vacation here in the winter) as frequently as possible (Both Vikes and Cowboys play here in 2008, Cowboys also played here in 2006).
Now living in (Yea, but it's a dry heat) Arizona and having to hear about the Cardinals has been like prolonged torture, the organization has one of the worst histories in all of sports. Before the new "aluminum-pie-tin look" or "jiffy-popper" stadium was built in Glendale, AZ it was voted down by nearly every suburban township in the Phoenix metro area. How did they fill all the seats in some games last year? Away teams bought many tickets and local corporations bought thousands of seats and ended up giving the tickets away to fill seats as the Cardinals had another 5-11 season.
The majority of people in the Phoenix metro area are from other parts of the country bringing with them loyalty to their own teams. Many sports bars here cater to fans from numerous other NFL teams.
If it wasn't for the new stadium I would say it could be a possibility the NFL might move the Cardinals to LA but Phoenix may not want to part with their (d)redbirds that finish 5-11 every year and have a brand new stadium sitting empty during the football season until the Fiesta Bowl and every 4-5 years the Super Bowl.
Keep the Vikes in Minnesota!!!
