Posted Tuesday June 23, 2009, About: Childress in over his head in Minnesota?
Childress seems in over his head as a head coach. Shortly after purchasing the Minnesota Vikings, owner Zygi Wilf took it upon himself to hire Childress after a very short selection process. Wilf is not considered as knowledgeable of the game and was criticized for not first hiring a top experienced personal manager who would be better prepared for and more knowledgeable to search for a new head coach. Wilf passed on many potential candidates who seemed more qualified then Childress, including and as well as some current and past Viking assistant coaches such as Mike Tomlin, who of course, just won the Super Bowl as head coach of the Steelers this past season. Nice going Zygi. Childress is probably praying Favre can save his ass as head coach.

Trade McNabb to the Vikings for Brad Childress... if only.
Posted Saturday January 10, 2009, About: Vikings back in market for No. 1 QB
I would respectfully disagree with you pwings on one issue regarding Herschal Walker, Walker has since admitted to having ongoing psychological issues in an interview done fairly recently. Issues that he has had for a good portion of his life. It sounds too much like ESPN crap in completely blaming the Vikings for Walker not being more productive.
Walker had a few good years immediately following college in the USFL during the 80s but never amounted to anything spectacular in the NFL playing for the Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles, and Giants (I believe). Plus before the Vikings made the infamous (horrible) trade for Walker from the Cowboys, Dallas did not want to build their team around Walker and they were already wanting to get rid of Walker to rebuild their team from the ground up, which they did with all the draft picks that Mike Lynn (Vikes pres/gm at the time) gave up to the Cowboys. The rest is history - Walker never 'lead' the Vikes to the Superbowl and Dallas using all those draft picks went on to win three s-bowls after Walker left.

This has been an issue for many teams including the Vikings for many years - getting a franchise qb to lead the team. The Vikes had Fran Tarkenton in the for so many years in the 60s-70s and since then have gone through so many QBs it has at times been frustrating. Yes Tommy Kramer had a few productive years in the 80s but then the Vikes started going through QBs often including W. Wilson, R. Gannon, S. Salsbury (sp), W. Moon, B. Johnson, R. Cunningham, J. George, D. Culpepper, and most recently T. Jack/G. Ferrotte(sp). What makes P. Manning one of the best, if not the best Qbs in the league is his constant studying of the game. When seen on the sidelines he is almost always looking at pictures of the opposing defense or speaking with his receivers about plays. Some other QBs are standing on the sidelines laughing or making sure they look good for the cameras.

pwings brings up a good point - is childress really the coach to take the Vikes to the next level or will he continue to be in over his head as an NFL head coach. Maybe Childress belongs back in the college game.
John D Booty might want to take this opportunity to do everything he can to get ready for next season if he wants a chance to ever play in the NFL. There aren't many college QBs who seem ready to step in any time soon and lead an NFL team.

The economy is a huge factor that so many people are feeling the effects of this recession/depression or whatever people want to call it, not able to justify spending the extra cash especially following the holidays. Vikings fans have been strong supporters of our team from day one in 1961 but we have also been through so much frustration that I for one don't blame the fans for not rushing to see this Vikes team especially with the way they ended the season vs Giants backups (yes a win, but only 1 point, on last second field goal) after fumbling away the Falcons game. Nobody is completely sold on Childress yet even with all these reasons it's possible that the game would have already been sold out if a quality proven coach like B. Cowher or M. Schottenheimer were in command. Vikes fans are at the point of wanting to have a lot more confidence in who is calling the shots. Still, SKOL Vikings!

Dallas and then NY teams will be getting billion dollar stadiums, which I'm sure will be grand architectural structures, and they have a right to build stadiums if taxpayers approve (all of us non-Cardinal fans here in Phoenix metro have to help pay for the big "jiffy-popper" stadium through sales tax even though we voted NOT to build a new stadium).
If the NFL does not continue revenue sharing a small market team or two will be moved to LA, which will probably happen regardless because the NFL is hell-bent on getting a team in LA.
80,000 seats expandable to 100,000 will obviously be versatile for many different events to help support the cost.
It is interesting how these stadiums (Cowboys, Yankees, etc.) some of them huge, are being built during a time when so many people are experiencing difficult times, the economy and housing market are not good, wall street woes, taxpayer money for corporate bailouts etc. But fans are still going to watch their favorite teams so right now the NFL seems to be very strong.
If the players union and owners come to a labor agreement and revenue sharing stays in place the new stadium in Dallas may not be copied because of costs or have any major effect besides at the local level in Dallas. If a collective bargaining agreement is not reached and the salary cap does not stay in place , owners who have major costs of stadium construction and renovation say they will not be able to compete. We'll see.

I live in Phoenix and unfortunately hear too much about the Bidwell owned Cardinals, but the Phoenix metro area has transplants from all over the country. When the Cards played at Sun Devil Stadium almost every visiting team, not just the Cowboys, had more fans then the Cards. Vikings and Packers games vs Cards at Sun Devil Stadium were like home games for Vikes and Pack with approx. 45,000 to 55,000 Vike/Pack fans at each game. Even with the new Cards "pie tin / jiffy popper" stadium some visiting teams have 15-25,000 fans. If it weren't for visiting fans the Cards stadium would have many empty seats on any given Sunday.
It is true though that the Bidwells seriously envy the Cowboys (pie tin palace has hole in roof like texas stadium) so much so that when the divisions were realigned Bidwell complained to the NFL that his Cardinals would not make as much revenue because the Cowboys wouldn't be playing in Phoenix every year. So the NFL appeased Bidwell and gives the Cardinals home games against the Cowboys (& NFC East), even Vikings, and Packers (because of all the midwesterners that live here and vacation here in the winter) as frequently as possible (Both Vikes and Cowboys play here in 2008, Cowboys also played here in 2006).

Childress, so far, is not the best coach in the world but would you shake the hand of somebody who ridiculed you through out the summer and placed false tampering charges against you. And packgirl fans calling any other fans sore losers, get a life! No one complains or makes as many excuses as packgirl fans after the brown bay lackers lose a game. And your hero, burt farva, look how quickly you've turned your back on him. Never heard from you moldheads for nearly three decades and now your all up on your high and mighty pedestals, give it a rest. When the Vikes finally do get a head coach who knows what he's doing and a quarterback who throws near the vicinity of the receiver they'll be alright, of course, by the time that happens Zigi Wolf will have his big check from the nfl for moving the Vikes to Los Angeles.
Posted Thursday September 11, 2008, About: Allen's first Vikings game a bust
Allen's lack of sacks is not the Vikings biggest problem, that would be the head coach and the offense. Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson will be so worn out after the season that they will both lose 5 years off of their playing career. Tarvaris Jackson looked at times confused and on one play when he had a chance to run & dive for a first down he instead flopped right into a defensive back. All the talk about Vikes in the super bowl his year was way premature, they still need some pieces in place, like a head coach who isn't in way over his bald head and a quarterback who actually can throw to the receiver as opposed to into thin air or on the final drive, to the other team. Amazingly, with the lack of quality play from the Vikes on Monday, they still had a chance to win the game at the end.
Posted Monday September 03, 2007, About: NFL thinking relocation for L.A.
Being a lifelong Vikings fan I would be disappointed to see the Vikes leave Minnesota but the unfortunate reality is this is a capitalist society we live in, based on maximum profits not loyalty. Minnesota has some great proud fans and great history for over 45 years. The NFC North is one of the divisions that made alot of sense when the NFL realigned several years past, Vikes have great rivalries with Chicago and green Bay. I hope the Vikes do NOT move!

Now living in (Yea, but it's a dry heat) Arizona and having to hear about the Cardinals has been like prolonged torture, the organization has one of the worst histories in all of sports. Before the new "aluminum-pie-tin look" or "jiffy-popper" stadium was built in Glendale, AZ it was voted down by nearly every suburban township in the Phoenix metro area. How did they fill all the seats in some games last year? Away teams bought many tickets and local corporations bought thousands of seats and ended up giving the tickets away to fill seats as the Cardinals had another 5-11 season.
The majority of people in the Phoenix metro area are from other parts of the country bringing with them loyalty to their own teams. Many sports bars here cater to fans from numerous other NFL teams.
If it wasn't for the new stadium I would say it could be a possibility the NFL might move the Cardinals to LA but Phoenix may not want to part with their (d)redbirds that finish 5-11 every year and have a brand new stadium sitting empty during the football season until the Fiesta Bowl and every 4-5 years the Super Bowl.
Keep the Vikes in Minnesota!!!
