I was once a 10-times-a-day fannation checker who loved Truth&Rumors. I've become a three-times-a-week checker now due to the awful decline of member comments and attitudes, and more so because of the direction this site has gone in its selection of T&Rs. I despise the Yankees and everything they represent and enjoy their losses. BUT, this is uncalled for, totally classless, and unfair to Joba. Is fannation sharing a direct line with the New York Post for content consultation? See ya in another few weeks...

mjallen, being an anti-owner type of fan who almost always sticks up for the players in these disputes, I am with you to an extent. But where I am not, lies with my belief that this guy is doing the same exact thing many before him have done in pro sports, without the same scorn and outcry from the media and fans.

Putting aside my defense of players and hatred for plantation-owner mentality pro sports franchise owners, we have the classic American double-standard going on here.

Cutler is acting no differently than a Chad Johnson, Manny Ramirez, or other pro athlete of a minority that have spoken out against ownership or coaching staffs (none of these guys are angels, that's not my point. And also please notice I did not use Terrell Owens, who is in a league of his own).

Cutler is acting like the same egomaniac as many before him, who should realize unfortunately for all players BUSINESS IS BUSINESS. This is no different than any other scenario in the past anywhere else in pro sports. Yet the general sports media is giving him a pass that minority athletes in these same type of disputes do not get. I have yet to hear or see a single talking head on ESPN attack Cutler like Ramirez or Johnson has been attacked. Fox Sports Radio (ESPN's biggest critic) in true Rupert Murdoch flavor is even guiltier on this than ESPN. Cutler, a white male, gets a free pass here, and very few of us realize it.

Wake up people. Cutler is doing the same exact thing here as many before him. But in America, still, there are different rules for different groups.

My point here I suppose, don't hate the player (Cutler, Ramirez, Johnson), hate the game (racism and white privilege in America).

As a lifelong, year-round resident of the Jersey Shore, I respectfully could not disagree with you more. It's far far worse. Travel around the country and interact with other people outside of the NYC tri-state area. I have and it gave me new hope for humanity.

NWPA, as a NJ resident and an objective observer to anything RU or Penn State, I totally agree with your comments about wanting to spend 4 years or so in New Jersey - not the most enlightening of places in the country. However, strictly football, I don't see how any kid would want to go to Penn State/Paternoville after the way JoePa behaved during the actual Rose Bowl. Not talking to your own team at half time? On the other hand, Schiano used halftime of his bowl game to spark a comeback. On football terms, I'd pick Schiano over Paterno any day. Oh yeah, RU just lost the best WR in the nation you've never heard of, Britt, to the NFL...

W. wasn't the only owner involved with the steroid scandal obviously, but had he pardoned Clemens, a whole new can of worms would have been opened, over-analyzed, and discussed for ever by talking heads. The goal now is to keep the Bush name out of Americans' minds (enough is enough whether you loved him or hated him), make sure Clemens receives just punishment for perjury, and to one day enjoy baseball without wondering if it's clean or not (gonna be tough).

Nothing to do with the economy? Have you read the comments made by owners franchieses other than the Yankees/Mets/Red Sox lately? I agree with you no doubt about the Yankees. But really, have you looked at pro sports outside of the Yankees lately? Look at recent head coach hirings in the NFL lately.

OK, let's look at this Manny situation in a more realistic way, in terms of the sad reality of America right now, and consider another reason this player is not yet signed, sealed, and ready with some big market team. Could it be, aside from all the Manny being Manny B.S. that is so overly reported, and distorted (not saying he's an angel, but the media angle on him is always the same), that the near-depression state of the country has something to do with this? With the exception of the Yankees, and probably Red Sox and Mets, the rest of MLB teams have to hold concerns about their own financial situations. Could it be more that Manny is completely unaffordable for many teams, and it has little to do with his Manny being Manny stigma?

JHova, despite being a huge USC fan and Sanchez fan, I agree with you. Any other year I would say stay in school and get your degree. But the America we are facing for years to come will be a barren scary place where having a degree and intelligence may not mean much in terms of financial survival. I now urge all of these kids to utilize their talents and set up their futures - by signing any NFL contract possible. Sad but true.
