Posted Friday July 31, 2009, About: Pirates called 'laughingstock of baseball'
I cannot take seriously anyone who says "I am happy with all of these trades." There is absolutely no way anyone, even the Nationals, is run as poorly as the Pirates. When a team that begins the year with one of the lowest payrolls in the league dumps its top 4 men in terms of salary, and lets go of arguably its two best prospects (Morgan and Gorzellany), there is absolutely no way any of the fans of any of the other 29 teams can delude themselves into thinking that the Pirates are "Building for the future."

Sounds like the Phillies' Jason Donald...
Posted Saturday May 02, 2009, About: Jays scouting high school ace
It is nice to see the Jays do well I think; I really like Marcum but he's hurt like everyone else... yes it does appear the Jays will run out of steam but who knows? They just keep winning games. I think 81-81 would be a lofty but not unreasonable goal. Especially if Hill keeps hitting like he currently is...
Posted Friday May 01, 2009, About: Ex-GM: Nationals will draft Strasburg
Ok, Ok, let's get this straight. Is the guy going to win 300 in his career? Almost certainly not. Is he going to get hurt sometime in his first 5 years? Well, probably. But geeze, you can say that about any pitcher in the draft. I know the issue isn't that he's going first; it's the money. But if I had a chance to draft a solid number 2, or the chance to draft a guy who has a 10% chance of making it to the hall of fame and will be my #1 starter either THIS YEAR or the beginning of next, I take the latter. Even for 5x the money. Lord knows the nats need a game changer.
Posted Thursday April 16, 2009, About: Paulus passes on Duke's football offer
Kind of silly I think to say "oh, he's been out of football for 4 years..." He was a highly touted prospect and it's not like he's been sitting on the couch eating potato chips for 4 years; his physical condition's gotta be awesome. He knows what it's like to lead a team, and he's definitely going to have a shot to start for Michigan. I think maybe you guys a) underestimate his abilities and b) overestimate Michigan's QBs (which probably aren't starter material). Again, we're not just talking about some chump trying to walk on from a high school team...

I believe King James can win anywhere. Truly. Even with the Knicks. Don't the great ones like a challenge?

I wonder if she's the kind of person who doesn't like it when anyone gets emotional about anything

Pardon; *she's* looking for someone to oppose...
Posted Thursday February 26, 2009, About: Governor: UConn's Calhoun 'embarrassing'
Calhoun is absolutely right to have been angry. The reporter is obviously a jerk who just likes attention. Even if he's not, a post-game press conference is not the place for questions like that. For the governor to call it an "embarrassing display" is just silly and sounds like he's looking for someone to oppose just to prove he has opinions on something.

You got baseball out of the tubes. Well done.
But you sure as hell should acknowledge that you sold out to do so
Posted Saturday July 19, 2008, About: Blanton pushing Eaton to bullpen?
Okay i am befuddled here. Why is a guy who has a 5-12 record and an ERA in the high fours considered a god send? seriously soenmone enlighten me here.

4192jc (Don't give up!)

Easy answer. Part one: Anyone who can eat innings as a starter, in today's game, is quite valuable. Part two: 5-12, 4.something ERA in the AL is like 8-7, 3.something ERA in the NL. Yes, I know about how the hitting is down in the junior circuit this year, etc, but look at the interleague records. Blanton's pitching for a team he already beat solidly this year.
Posted Monday May 05, 2008, About: Yanks GM in Phillies future?
We Phillies fans would be overjoyed to have Cashman. We're still... still... disgusted with Ed Wade. And Gillick's been great, but we all knew it was just a temporary thing. It'll either be Cashman or Ruben Amaro Jr.
