He was the biggest fan of the fans and the best promoter of the student body. He was an educator and would often take parts in the debates of the 60's and 70's!
He rarley laid a finger on any player of his, but I've played at that level and I can say as someone who played in the 90's coaches were pushing and smacking you around then and they still are today.
I really think you are misguided in your opnions of Woody Hayes and I think your contemtion for tOSU is overcasting what the truth really is about another person. If you dislike the football team or the program that's one thing but to smear a good man's name and preach false things about him to defame his character is not only inflamitory but neglegent on your part. Talk smack on a Team or a bad play but not the individual.
1. Coach Hayes was one of the leaders when it came to college football and intergration.
2.Lieutenant Commander Hayes who was an excutive officer in the Pacific fleet against the Japanese During WWII.
3.Woody Hayes was a consumate believer in that all these young men who came to him needed there education and would chase them down if they failed to do so often at his personal expense to ensure they graduated with a degree.
4. A well known fact in the columbus area and childrens hospitals, beyond the many generous donations he gave was more importantly the time he would make his players and coaches and himself spend with these children so that life was always put in a proper perspective.
5. The countless number of coaches who give credit to coach Hayes and how they began a career learning from him.(Ie. Bo Shembeckler, Lou Holtz.)
6. The 5 national titles and 13 Big Ten titles he won.
7. 205-61-10 record (.761) (Not to Shabby)
These are just a few to start with, so I find it hard to understand how it is "disgusting" for a program to revere such a man and if you could please explain it I'd appriciate it.
I regularly attend the FSU games here at Doak, and Around here the ACC Officiating is considered the worst. My friends from the West coast gripe every time they watch the Pac-10, Ect..ect.. I think it's one of those the grass is always greener ordeals.
PS, Tressel is one of the of the people with the most class I have ever had the fortune to meet. The man has never spoken ill of an opponent and only congratulates those whom he competes against. To say such ill things of a person of his caliber not only resonates through what is to be expected of your persona, but also what team/associations you represent yourself with.
Point is this minority shouldn't represent the group as a whole. And to be honest a little rough up the other team is part of it...yes it does get out of hand but you lick your wounds to someday lookback when your team wins and say ok guys now its our turn lets hope in the 350 dually and have some fun at there expense..Minus the profanity cause that just asking to get night-sticked by the local PD.
