Posted Saturday December 03, 2011, About: Why Colts should part with Peyton
Everyone thinking that the Colts should trade the pick for a huge return to aid Manning's final years seem to be overlooking two huge problems with that strategy. First, the picks they are likely to receive would be spread over several years, meaning that half of them probably won't be developed starters before Manning is either in full decline or done entirely. Secondly, adding more high draft picks won't do the Colts much good if the Polians are the ones continuing to squander them. It really looks like the Colts are screwed no matter which direction they go with this.
Posted Monday January 31, 2011, About: Harbaugh: Smith can be a winner
I'm not sure that Hill's 87.5 and 79.6 ratings in 2008 and 2009 were setting the world on fire compared to Smith's 81.5 in 2009. While Smith hasn't been all that great, no other QB has been either. Quite simply, the organization seems to be a bigger problem than just the guys taking the snaps.

I'm curious who you think "outperformed" Smith for longer than maybe a single game? If someone had, he'd have been the starter for some time now...

So you're surprised that two head coaches who know nothing about offense failed to develop their QB? And just how does having a new offensive coordinator every season factor into the equation? Smith may not have ever had All Pro potential, but that franchise did everything possible to put obstacles in his way.

So being a top 5 pick and making maybe $30 guaranteed on a TERRIBLE team this last year is preferable to still going in the first round a year later, likely ending up on better team and having a better chance of longer and more lucrative career? He will "suffer" in the short term but certainly be in a much better position to succeed going to a better team with les pressure to start from day one. Do you honestly think that Aaron Rodgers would be the player he is today if the 49ers had taken him first overall and he hadn't had time to develop? Being a top 5 pick as a QB is generally, though not always, more of a curse than a blessing.
Posted Friday December 10, 2010, About: Padres fans given bait-and-switch?
Hoyer has been nothing if not brutally honest for some time now about the fact that the team could not afford to pay Gonzalez what he is worth when it came time for a new contract and was more than willing to entertain offers for him. Any "fan" that was completely unaware of this or simply lacking the common sense to realize that he was unlikely to play a majority of this season in a San Diego uniform deserves to be "cheated" out of his season ticket money.
Posted Friday December 10, 2010, About: Garrett nearing full-time status?
Apparently the author of this piece is unaware that Jerry was already denied permission by the league to hire Garrett as the permanent head coach without interviewing other minority candidates first in accordance with the Rooney Rule...
Posted Wednesday September 29, 2010, About: York's next move may involve Singletary
Actually, he's now on his SIXTH offensive coordinator in six years. While Smith may never have been a Pro Bowl player anyway, this is the ultimate example of a team doing it's absolute best to ensure that a young QB never develops. As a shotgun spread college QB, no one in their right mind should have started him in his rookie season no matter what the injury or performance situation on the depth chart. And until very recently, he'd had a bad offensive line, bad receivers and played mostly in run first offenses that never allowed him to get a good rhythm going. Again, I'm not suggesting that Smith might have been the second coming of Montana if he'd been handled properly, but the 49ers' front office deserves all of the blame for his lack of sustained success at this point in his career.

I think the money was a lot smaller of a reason that trying to extend the one record he owns that is least likely to be broken, the consecutive starts streak. With only one ring and eventually no meaningful passing records, he wants to have at least one memorable NFL achievement to his name when he's in a rocking chair, especially since he took a huge dump on his legacy with the team most closely associated with his career. And along the lines, a chance to win a second ring wasn't far down the list either.
Posted Monday September 13, 2010, About: Sanders out for season?
This latest injury means that there is no chance he will be a Colt next season, likely joining Addai and Wayne in getting pushed out the door. He just better not expect much more than the vet minimum with a lot of incentives when he's shopping for a new team in 2011.
Posted Wednesday September 08, 2010, About: Gonzalez unhappy with Colts?
I'm not sure how complaining helps him out in the least. He lost his job due to a couple of injuries and could easily win it back when the same thing happens to someone else. Crying about it is the worst thing a player of his stature and accomplishment can do. If he's not careful, the Rams might end up getting a call from Indy offering them a badly needed WR...

Posted Wednesday August 18, 2010, About: Ryan's dad, Buddy, fires back at Dungy
Let's not forget that he only even got the Colts to a single Super Bowl despite coaching teams that AVERAGED over 12 wins a season for 7 years. That coupled with his career LOSING record in the playoffs certainly dents the argument that he is a "great" head coach...

Go back and read it again until you understand the point, which is not too difficult to grasp...

Certain. Try looking it up instead of asking me whether I am correct...
Posted Wednesday August 18, 2010, About: Ryan's dad, Buddy, fires back at Dungy
Nope, McKay was Tampa's GM from '93-'03, the period during which the team that Dungy coached was assembled...
Posted Wednesday August 18, 2010, About: Ryan's dad, Buddy, fires back at Dungy
The only problem is that Dungy never "built" any of his teams. Sure coaches have SOME personnel input, but Polian is the man who built the successful Colts teams just as McKay put together the pieces for the Bucs.

Really? I thought the Colts' D wasn't ever that good because Monte Kiffin wasn't around to make Dungy look smarter than he actually was. Surely the Tampa 2 was ENTIRELY Tony's idea...
