Unfortunately, this happens consistently in all sports, we just aren't deep enough in the national talent pool to not notice the failures. Not many of the Miracle On Ice Olympic team went on to stellar careers, that was their shining beacon. Since they are under-17, maybe they've peaked in their skills overall, which put them a step ahead of other 17 year olds... but other 17 year olds may still have had that room left to grow. That and again, we need managers here. While it isn't as attractive a prospect, there should be an academy for young minds to go to learn the tactics of the game at the managerial level, and a coaching level. Coaching staffs aren't the size of football staffs where a kid can catch on while they're still in college and end up being Jon Gruden or Josh McDaniels....

you might end up getting that before too long. I don't expect any coaching changes at all for the Nats tho. Not unless they bomb out of the actual World Cup

While I was hoping for DC... and lots of you were hoping for Chicago... at least he went to a team that deserves success. Could you imagine the nightmare of if he ended up in Kansas City or something?

Please don't go to the SPL... it's like... the dying ground for promising US talents. There's just no competition there week to week. Literally. Opposing teams would see the same results against Rangers and Celtic if they didn't field any players at all...

Oh man... there's not even a comparison. Real Salt Lake actually deserved to be in the playoffs instead of throwing it in reverse and backing in after about 7 conditions were met by other teams losing and what not.

I wanna take a ride down just to take in the new digs they have... looks nice.

As far as underachieving... they bankrolled the stadium, maybe now that that is (nearly) done, they'll be able to refocus spending on the team to the personnel.

So.... the EPL again denied Celtic and Rangers bids to join the Premier League... I wonder if they don't just bite the bullet and join the Championship if they really want in that much. What'll that cost them, one sole year in a lower division, with the trade off being getting to where they want to be?

awesome... the MLS season isn't even over and we're starting to use recycled stories already. I find it hard to believe Man City isn't on the verge of transferring for some absurd player that will never play there, like Pele, or something...

Don't feel too bad, they busted my chops too when I asked about it a few months ago ;-) It has a lot to do with how the new owners (NuRock??) took away Carolina's franchise rights, is likely doing it with Atlanta's... and more may be on the chopping block. I guess for FIFA recognition, there needs to be "team ownership" of the league on some level, and this company is virtually taking apart the entire TOA of the USL... it originally started as a NASL revival rumor, stealing away New York USL and Tampa Bay - complete with NASL rules (35-yard offside line, shootouts, stuff that likely would never happen)... but that died quickly enough.
