now i would like to see steele at UT, however he might be thinking that he wants to be more than just josh shelbey's back up
this formation does have its draw backs, potential disaster on the wings, however its strengths, more goal opportunities/ keeping the ball out of our defending third, seems to make a lot of sense especially considering that a quality team will eventually break through our bunker down defense-ex one Bazil 3 USA 2.
i know it is a gamble, but considering the alternative, i think it is worth it.

this line up has plenty of defense with gooch, spector, boca, bradley, jones, and has a pretty powerful offensive punch with feilhaber controlling the midfeild. the issue would be getting outflanked as the 5 primary defenders would be bunched more in the middle (and i am not sold on whether boca has the speed to handle it as the 2 outside defenders have to be amongst the fastest players on the feild, or whether gooch can keep his mistakes to a minimum as he seems mistake prone, but that could just me me), and donovan and dempsey would have to cover more ground. however. 5 mids plus the addition of feilhaber would allow the us to control the ball for longer periods of time, and thus avoid the bunker down style against spain. (i know it worked then, but it is not conducive to long term success). it would also allow us to get more attempts on goal which equals more goals.
