As a current servicemember, I have to look at this in two lights:

1. As others have stated, I would certainly not be offended if they put up a statue in tribute to Walter Payton at Soldier Field. In fact, it makes so much sense that it seems silly!

2. I can also see where Gery Chico is coming from; he is not attempting to issue a slap in the face to Walter Payton, rather, honoring our nation's Veterans and current servicemembers.

All of that being said, and I'm not a Bears fan at all, I still think a Walter Payton statue is appropriate, and people should not be killing Chico for his opinion.

You don't get it because you probably weren't an athlete growing up. There's nothing worse than losing reps in practice and camp because you weren't doing what you were supposed to be doing. Even though it's practice, players love to get reps because it's what they love to do - play. Whether its practice or a game, you want to get better at your assignments, not do more conidtioning drills.

One of the things that we've seen with Romo in training camp so far this year is he's really focusing on hitting the open man on his first read instead of looking for #81...should be a special year for the Cowboys if the chips fall in their favor. We all know the saying: "any given Sunday." That's why I love the NFL!
