I am surprised no one is talking about Bryant Johnson...do we think he stays or goes??? Personally I think he is a wonderful third option at the WR position, but I wonder if his price tag is worth it or if he has the patience to play third fiddle, arguably he could be a nice standout on another team...he reminds me a west coast Wes Welker! If Bryant leaves, AZ will have to take a LATE round WR to replace the lost speed, UNLESS they use Breaston. HUMMMM...... Someone please forward this lay out to Rod Graves!!!!
Really? What collegiate athlete in a revenue producing sport receives a quality education? This is a very debatable point! The majority of these athletes are forced to train athletically from sun up to sun down (morning workouts, late night practices), seasons have been extended to the point where athletes only get two months off...MAXIMUM, college athletes are ganked from their respective campuses every Friday (some Thursdays) to stay in hotels (for home games) and to travel ridiculous distances to play cross country opponents. We need not forget the recent expansion of some conferences...in particular the ACC which now hosts teams all up and down the east coast. Not to mention, athletes are often told what they can and what they cannot major in (do you think every athlete wants to major in criminal justice, communications, and physical education, coincidence i don't think so) Tutor....yes, they are given tutors but the primary purpose of these tutors is to DO the work, not to teach the athlete. Athletes are costly investments for schools, do you really think they are going to gamble their investments on a star player not remaining academically illegible..so, yes they safeguard their investments. NOT TO MENTION.....schools typically recruit athletes with substantially lower SAT's and GPA's than there average student body, often times rendering these athletes unable to actually complete the work..sad I know, but a reality it is. If you need a highlight of what I am talking about please check out the educational negligence case brought against Creighton....a team who recruited an athlete with a subpar academic performance which resulted in a great disadvantage for the student who is not a school janitor.
Educational neglect is my biggest issue with the NCAA and their current policies...educational primacy IS not their focus and they aren't providing athletes with enough educational support. Solution, pay athletes (in the form of educational incentives) so we can bypass all these complex investigations and eventual litigation....its time to resolve the hypocrisy's inherent in the NCAA's amateurism stance. Pay or provide adequate educations!
These trade rumors actually started last season, they have been persistent because Larry wants another contract...he knows his worth and although he signed a MEGA contract he can rake in some extra dough wit a trade....BUT, at the end of the day AZ has the rights to him until 2010 or 2011..I think he is until 2011 and Boldin is 2010 or the other way around...EITHER WAY, Fitz stays in AZ for at least another season. I think he is growing weary of AZ...so if he starts to get persistent AZ HAS to let him go...we don't want another Moss on our hands...lol, I hope Larry wouldn't take it that far...lol!
