I think that's true about him being back for one more year...I guess Schilling will get nickeled and dimed to a paltry $11.5 mil next year and learn to have to live with the organization's glaring lack of loyalty.

Actually, the Oriole starting pitching really hasn't been as bad as one may think. They do have two of the top ten AL pitchers in ERA, so this is one area in which they have shown some improvement this year.

Hometown ties are why Teixeira would consider the Orioles as a future employer.

No, I would say, 'good move, Bill Stoneman, for further proving how well you know your personnel.'

Granted, Ervin Santana has had a dreadful season, but who is to say that he can't emerge next year with a strong turnaround? There certainly have been pitchers in the past who can attest to the kind of struggle Santana has endured, and were able to gradually come back with much more successful seasons, so it's not a big gamble to maintain the belief that this can be a case of someone who simply fell off one year, but who has the kind of ability to quickly rebound.

If Ervin Santana does win 15+ games next year, the Angels will be fortunate to have kept the faith.

As far as Teixeira is concerned, he's still on record for having turned down a $140 million contract, so it's going to take a really big effort to secure him for years to come.

Good luck to anyone primed to deal with Scott Boras on this client. :-o

I doubt there was anything remotely serious on this front. As lousy as J.D. Drew has been, it's still a pretty tough concept to consider someone with a $70 million contract as a role player, deserved as it may be.

Wily Mo Pena may very well have saved himself the other night, so it's certainly possible now that the Red Sox completely stand pat on the trade front.

Oy, another non-story for the masses...but, hey, if Teixeira wants to be a role player, there could be some below-the-surface substance to this headline. :)

If Boston does anything at the deadline, that's the type of player that would be sought - a role player who can play some first base and outfield.

Ty Wigginton is a good player who is versatile enough to play pretty much anywhere that a manager might need on any given day.

The D-Rays are pretty notorious for expecting a great amount for anyone they might consider dealing...however, I think ownership could lighten up a bit with Ty and reduce any expectations here.

So...Alex Rodriguez and only 91% of his salary might be enough to do the trick. :)
