One more...

And this goes along with #1. Is it 1 profile per person? I know some users use alters (for those that aren't sure what the difference between a dupe and an alter, I'm told alter's do not vote on TDs) which they claim are legal. If you are allowed to have alters, can we make a rule where they are only allowed on T&R? If the alters come over to TDs, it becomes difficult to determine which are alters and which are dupes. I also think that alters make people think it's ok to create dupes.

Personally, I think it should be 1 profile per person, but I know the T&R people enjoy their alters, so I'm only asking for the alters to stay on T&R.

To not belittle the point...

We need to know who the mods are. I know AdamLee is the night/weekend mod. I've heard musings that Red Hat is no longer a mod here. Do the mods still check "the moderator" profile? I just want to know where to send complaints/dupe profiles to be investigated.

I agree with the majority of this...couple changes/observations:

3. When someone violates the "list", do a 3 strikes and you are out policy. Warning, suspension, deletion.
- This is a great idea - a FM/email explaining the violation and informing the user they have received a strike. However, strikes should only be given out for a "high-level" offense. Maybe like personal attacks or something of the sort. Duping a TD could be a 2 strike offense/or even an automatic 3 strikes. However, you shouldn't get a strike for swearing or joking around.

4. Give folks a time or 2 to redeem themselves. No IP banning at this point.
--Can they even IP ban? What happens if you're connecting at a "hot spot" or college? (I'm a little unsure of how IP's work...so excuse the questions if they are totally wrong)

6. Have an open forum for folks to resolve issues like dupes. Personally, I find it amusing that people use dupes to vote for themselves, but there are a lot of folks here who do a lot of work on TD's and really do a ton of research and those folks deserve better. Caught using a dupe, the dupe account is deleted and a strike is put against the person who is doing it.
-- There should be a dupe-investigating group (or a couple user-mods). If there is a suspicion, FM the person in charge the url of the accused dupe(s) and a legit reason you suspect it. (Reasons like - he voted against me late will not be investigated. Rather, "he voted for my opponent in 9 of his last 10 TDs and has <10 comments" would be investigated)

I would add something like:
7. The user mod has a blog listing the reasons people got deleted. For example:
User_NAME_xxx: duping and personal attacks...

That way people know the exact reason for the deletion and we aren't left wondering why.

Also, when deleted, fannation should sent an email to the email address explaining why. When I was deleted, no reason was ever given to me. I went to log on, and it said account removed. I created dozens more accounts, if I put my actual name, it was deleted immediately upon my first comment. I finally got through to a moderator and my original account was reinstated. No reason was given for the initial banning or the reason why I was allowed back.

Communication is essential to keeping a good relationship between mods and users.
