Bah, I take a mild vacation and everything's topsy turvy.

Actual comment navigation and 4192 enduring hellish shame.

YankeeSteve, if Pettitte is coming back, why would the Yankees offer more? That would mean their pitching situation is not as dire, thus they would not be as desperate.

I suppose you could say that with Pettite AND Santana, that would put them over the top, but I just don't see the Yankee mentality as being that way.

I hate the A's as a team, but I've always admired them as an organization.
They are a testament to doing more with less *consistantly*. (the Braves were also an example of this under Pinchpenny TimeWarner.. it'll be interesting to see how Liberty Media runs things).

Even when Oakland didn't want to pony up dough for a new stadium (McAfee Coliseum, much like their products, is a dump), they didn't roll over and pout; they raised *private* funds and are getting shiny new digs in Freemont.

eh, the problem with Wang is knowing which one will show up.
When he's on, he's lights out, when he's off, he has a tendancy to serve up taters.
He's still currently the staff ace in my mind because he is generally more on than off, with Andy still being a question mark.

I congratulate the Red Sox on retaining a good player and am disappointed the Yankees will have to explore other 1B options.

Slinky, do you actually have a disagreement with any of my points, or are you just here for the baseless ad hominem attacks?

I'm still waiting to see what exactly he disagrees with.

I generally don't bite, but now I'm curious..
what exactly are you disagreeing with me on?

I'm trying to explain the lack of japanese sponsorships for the Red Sox, nothing more.

*trying to sell Japanese soap
that should say
Posted Monday November 19, 2007, About: Boras' Dice-K windfall falls short
Lets say you're a Japanese soap company. You know your customers like baseball. A phenom signs with an MLB team, and all of those teams games willb e broadcast in Japan. Here are your options:

If the team is in a market that is receptive to your product you buy a billboard in the stadium. This promotes brand awareness in your new MLB market and reinforces brand identity with those watching the team in Japan.

If your research does *not* show the market to be receptive, you buy commercial time between innings for games broadcast in Japan, reinforcing brand identity locally, while not wasting money trying to sell Japanese to people that aren't going to buy it.

Yes, the Red Sox have gotten exposure in Japan as a direct result of Daisuke, however, that is NOT why Japanese companies advertise on MLB teams. There are far cheaper ways to reach the crowd locally in Japan.
Its all about reaching a new, perceptive market, and that market is not perceived to be there in Boston by those companies.

This isn't about buzz.
This is about Japanese companies spending ad dollars on your team.
They look at Seattle, they see a large pre-installed base.
They look at New York, they see THE premiere international hub.
They look at Boston, and I don't quite think they see Happy Multicultural Tolerantland.

Mariners - Owned by a Japanese company in a city with a large Japanese community.

Yankees - New York. Nuff said.

Red Sox - it really, really pains me to say this, but The Truth is right.

Posted Saturday November 03, 2007, About: A-Rod wanted $350M for sit-down
More than likely, the writers will get bored with the subject before he ever signs with someone.
I don't see this being fully played out until Jan-feb.

Can anyone else imagine Boras putting his pinky to the corner of his mouth as he asked for that figure?

pk-
A-..and A-rod will stand there with a straight face and say its always been his dream to play for them
B- you may wonder how far the bridge burning goes. The Yankees have a 'sister team' relationship with the Yomiuri Giants, as well as the Red sox have a marketting agreement with the Seibu Lions. Japan could get lonely for him too
Posted Thursday November 01, 2007, About: Boras blames Rivera for A-Rod's woes
heh, since someone brought up Sheff, remember one of his parting shots after he was traded?

"I wish him (A-rod) luck, because I was the only friend he had in that clubhouse."

Hmmm...
