YankeeSteve, if Pettitte is coming back, why would the Yankees offer more? That would mean their pitching situation is not as dire, thus they would not be as desperate.
I suppose you could say that with Pettite AND Santana, that would put them over the top, but I just don't see the Yankee mentality as being that way.
They are a testament to doing more with less *consistantly*. (the Braves were also an example of this under Pinchpenny TimeWarner.. it'll be interesting to see how Liberty Media runs things).
Even when Oakland didn't want to pony up dough for a new stadium (McAfee Coliseum, much like their products, is a dump), they didn't roll over and pout; they raised *private* funds and are getting shiny new digs in Freemont.
When he's on, he's lights out, when he's off, he has a tendancy to serve up taters.
He's still currently the staff ace in my mind because he is generally more on than off, with Andy still being a question mark.
what exactly are you disagreeing with me on?
I'm trying to explain the lack of japanese sponsorships for the Red Sox, nothing more.
that should say
If the team is in a market that is receptive to your product you buy a billboard in the stadium. This promotes brand awareness in your new MLB market and reinforces brand identity with those watching the team in Japan.
If your research does *not* show the market to be receptive, you buy commercial time between innings for games broadcast in Japan, reinforcing brand identity locally, while not wasting money trying to sell Japanese to people that aren't going to buy it.
Its all about reaching a new, perceptive market, and that market is not perceived to be there in Boston by those companies.
This is about Japanese companies spending ad dollars on your team.
They look at Seattle, they see a large pre-installed base.
They look at New York, they see THE premiere international hub.
They look at Boston, and I don't quite think they see Happy Multicultural Tolerantland.
Yankees - New York. Nuff said.
Red Sox - it really, really pains me to say this, but The Truth is right.
Scott Boras to resign as Baseball Devil.
Vice-Devil Donald Fehr to be sworn in.
More at 11.
see what I did there?
I don't see this being fully played out until Jan-feb.
re: $350M - Scott, put down the crackpipe
re: smashmouth - stop snitchin'! (yeah, the buttons threw me off guard at first, too; weren't there this morning)
It is official- Papers were submitted monday.
A-..and A-rod will stand there with a straight face and say its always been his dream to play for them
B- you may wonder how far the bridge burning goes. The Yankees have a 'sister team' relationship with the Yomiuri Giants, as well as the Red sox have a marketting agreement with the Seibu Lions. Japan could get lonely for him too
"I wish him (A-rod) luck, because I was the only friend he had in that clubhouse."
Hmmm...
