I think you missed the point. Whether it "works out" or not is almost secondary. The CHANCE to work out is what fans in Toronto have been looking for since '93. Hope is all we ask for and now we have some. End of story.
Not even close. There's plenty to do "after sun down", you just have to know where to go. And, trust me, Toronto doesn't like to think of itself as second rate or ANY city in the US. We're too busy blindly cheering for the Leafs to do that.
Can't really defend many of Kahn's moves but, I think, just from the sheer ballsyness (many of you will consider this the same as stupidness) of his decisions, it's obvious that he's just taking shots (in the dark perhaps) at the huge score. I think he knew he'd get panned for the Flynn/Rubio/Lawson draft but hoped that, in a few years, he could pull a "told ya so". Bad deals are easy to spot in retrospect (sometimes minutes later with this guy) but, with the instability of a GM job, he figured "what the hell, I'll give it a go - maybe I'll strike it rich".
Actually, concentrating top players in a few locations is GOOD for the NBA - not so much for the cities that don't have the superstars but, as far as $$$ and publicity goes, it draws interest from casual fans and it's just smart marketing. Lakers/Celtics/Philly in the 80's saved the NBA. Interest waned a bit when it was Bulls vs. the rest of the league. Unless you have complete parity ala the NFL, you need powerhouses to drive fan interest.
I think Bricolangelo has the Euro Fever. It was all about creating Benetton Toronto. Lesson learned hopefully. Getting rid of him was beyond lucky. If Barbosa is out for the season with injuries, it'll still be a good trade.
Rose is better than Bibby? Yup. JJ probably trumps whoever plays SG (Korver, I guess?) for the Bulls. Deng and Marvin a wash? No way. Take contract and injury woes out of the equation and Deng is much better. I'd say Boozer and Josh Smith are a wash (maybe a slight edge to Smith for athleticism and blocked shots). And, yes, Noah has improved immensely but not enough to trump Al Horford. Add to that the bench players and the Hawks get the edge. The Bulls are much improved but still not at ATL's level as far as the regular season is concerned. If both make the playoffs, then I lean towards the Bulls.
However, it's all moot because the Raptors got the BIGGEST 3 - i.e. Amir Johnson, Linas Kleiza and NO Hedo - and will GUARANTEED be the best team in the East not from Florida with no rainbows on their uniforms or blue in their flag. Look out 11th seed, here we come...
Bosh is, admittedly, fringe-top-10 but he sure doesn't get much (enough IMO) love around here. I've watched pretty much every game he's played (many live) and he is worth every penny he got. I think he gets judged a lot for his early "accomplishments" and playoff "success" and not so much on all those little things one does to steadily improve and, ultimately, prove people wrong. I'm a Toronto fan and I woulda done the same thing.
Whether or not this is "right" will inspire many an argument but, as far as his legacy goes (and his marketing, which is where his legacy will really be written), what LeBron has done is actually pure genius. Why? Because anyone who believes he gives a rat's a.ss what anybody over 17 thinks is fooling themselves. The kids are the ones who will determine his "legacy". They're the ones who, in 20 years, will argue to no end on FanNation about why LeBron is, and not Kobe? Wall? Sonny Weems?, the GOAT. Do you think any 8 year old cares that LeBron's "not trying to be 'the Man'"? Nope, that 8 year old just became a huge Miami fan and will buy lots of jerseys and bobbleheads for a long time. It's a brand new world.
PS Why do all of these threads end up being "MJ is the GOAT/No he's not, you're stupid" arguments. I mean, come ON, it's obvious that that distinction goes to Bryant "Big Country" Reeves. Duh.
I believe the comparison was between the Knicks with Amare and Felton and Chicago WITHOUT LBJ, Wade etc. In that case, yeah, you'd be dreaming if you believed the Bulls would be the better team.
PS The Bulls didn't make the playoffs so much as the Raptors gave their spot to them.
PS Someone WILL give AI a contract. However, unless the team he signs with is 20 games over .500 by Christmas, he WILL find a reason (family, jailed buddy, practice) to bail out. Having said that...who cares?

So concludes my love letter to Chris Bosh.

Release the hounds.
