Posted Wednesday August 05, 2009, About: Paterno defends Bowden's record
I wonder if eyeswideopen just has his "defending FSU's integrity" rant (AKA "everybody's doing it") saved for just these scenarios.

Settle down, buddy. We didn't need you to remind us that FSU was good in the 90s. We remember.
Posted Wednesday August 05, 2009, About: Paterno defends Bowden's record
I disagree with those who say that Bobby wouldn't defend Joe. They really are good friends: They met as assistants on a recruiting trip in the 60s or something like that. They're not just 'hey we're both old coaches so we must be tight' friends.

That being said, even if Bobby keeps his wins, Joe will always be the king in my book (and many other people's) because Bobby's first 30 wins or so came at Samford. Joe has been at PSU the whole time, playing good competition the entire time.

I like Bobby Bowden and I'd love to have a beer with him some time, but I don't see how you can compare the two considering the Samford "wins".
Posted Sunday May 03, 2009, About: NHL nixing new cable deal?
ESPN's coverage may be terrible, but whatever the cost, the NHL has to sign a deal with them. It will pay off over time because ESPN has this terrible habit of forcing its interests upon anyone who it willing to watch/listen/read anything they produce.

Look at how the pump the NBA playoffs. The NBA playoffs are a joke, we all know there are only two teams that can win, but they analyze every series as if it's the Super Bowl in order to drum up interest.

They'd do the same for the NHL if it was in their interest.
Posted Friday May 01, 2009, About: Joe Pa eyes Big East schools for Big Ten expansion
Uh yeah Big Pappy I'm sure he's terrified of WVU, considering his career record against the Mountaineers is something along the lines of 48-7. And I'm not joking, he absolutely OWNS WVU.

Plus, I don't think anybody is scared of WVU, what with Pat White graduated and Bill Stewart at the helm. Bill Stewart is HORRIBLE!!! Unfortunately, that idiot will drive the program into the ground in five years. I honestly believe that, and I have no ill will toward WVU. I've been to games there and almost went to college there. I actually root for WVU, but Bill Stewart was an ATROCIOUS hire.

I think what we may be looking at here is an overall societal issue, starting with parenting and society in general.
Posted Wednesday July 30, 2008, About: Is Joe Pa in trouble at Penn State?
RBM921:

Preston Parker. Maybe I'll keep your name out of my mouth when we get some fair and balanced reporting, because FSU is and always will be the model correctional facility of college football. It's funny how last season, when half of the seminoles' roster was busted for cheating, nobody wrote anything like this, mostly because that's expected from Free Shoes University.

Parker got busted with a bigass sack of weed (not coke, sorry) and a loaded .45 on his dash, but he only got suspended for two games. Meanwhile, Penn State just kicked Chris Baker and Phil Taylor, guys who were going to help them this season, off the team for fights.

FSU is in such worse shape than PSU, but people want to crucify PSU because it's never been like this before.

And anybody from the Pittsburgh area who follows college sports knows how unbalanced the PG and TRIB are when it comes to PSU vs. Pitt, WVU. Barely a mention was made last year when LeVance Fields tried to steal a cop's gun when he was drunk underage last year. He wasn't even suspended.

Then, Monday night Joe Mazzulla and Cam Thoroughman (WVU BBall players) got busted for underages at the Pirate game, resisting arrest, and Mazzulla punched a cop in the head, but THIS was the column that the PG ran today. Hmmmmm....

Oh and I can tell you that two of the charges mentioned happened when Dan Connor and E.Z. Smith ordered like 20 pizzas to someone elses house.
Posted Wednesday July 30, 2008, About: Is Joe Pa in trouble at Penn State?
Wow that's hilarious that someone from Florida St. Penitentiary would bring up the number of issues surrounding Penn State. Didn't half your team get caught cheating last year, and didn't your best players get busted with cocaine and an unlicensed weapon?

Every one of the charges against PSU players has been either underage drinking or fighting. Also, half of those charged in the supposed "brawl" had the charges dropped because they were trying to break up the fight, which totally distorts those figures mentioned above.

Not that it excuses the other guilty parties, but come on. SEC schools and FSU get guys shot, busted with or selling hard drugs and they focus on Penn State? Why? Because a program which was held to a higher standard in the past has fallen into the same problems as everyone else.

Also, take a minute to look at the guy who wrote this story. Bob Smizik is as old if not older than Joe Paterno.

Posted Sunday May 18, 2008, About: Trade targets on Rangers radar
Yeah rip on all of the Penguins then go after all of them in the offseason, that sounds about right. I've seen the post speculate about the Blushirts signing Hossa, Malone and Orpik. What a garbage newspaper.

The Rangers already have a ton of Pittsburgh's sloppy seconds and it hasn't worked to date.
Posted Tuesday May 13, 2008, About: Big Ten schools calling App State
Why would anybody ask ASU how to beat Michigan?? They beat LLoyd Carr Michigan. RichRod UM is completely different and using that game would be beyond asinine
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Coburn possible for Game 3
Well I guess the Malkin trip makes up for all of Hartnell's red-headed diving antics and that pair of ignored high sticks in game one.

Here's a though: KILL THE ****!ING PENALTIES!

FACT: The flyers are the most penalized team throughout the playoffs. What makes you think it would stop now??
Posted Sunday May 04, 2008, About: Crosby defends going after Girardi
The way I saw it, and I certainly wouldn't have argued a penalty, is that Rosival lifted Malone's stick into the face with the butt of his stick. Like everyone else, I only saw it once because they really didn't talk about it much, but my initial reaction was that it was Rosival's fault. Man that guy had an awful game. Thanks for taking him off our hands, Rangers!!!
Posted Friday May 02, 2008, About: Ranger blasts 'classless' Malkin
He was probably just paying the Rangers back for when Girardi dove directly at the outside of his left knee on the breakaway. By the way, that was a goal.
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Did Avery try to take out Crosby?
Avery's in the hospital and out for the rest of the series. We're killing the blueshirts literally AND figurateively.

Hey everyone, say what you want about Sid, but nobody can beat him or the Pens. Jealousy is a stinky cologne.
Posted Tuesday April 29, 2008, About: Nady on Pirates trade block
And to the jackass (Sir Robin: sweet name by the way you douche_bag) in here that said Barry Bonds' tenure was the highlight of Pirate history, you are so ignorant it makes me want to throw toddlers out of a moving bus. If you knew ANYTHING AT ALL about the history of baseball, you'd know what an unbelievably rich history they've had, dating back to the late 1800s. Do yourself a favor, google Paul Waner, Honus Wagner, Bill Mazeroski and Roberto Clemente. You're a moron and nobody should ever take anything you say seriously because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I hope you die.
Posted Tuesday April 29, 2008, About: Nady on Pirates trade block
And yes, people do call sports talk shows in Pittsburgh to talk Pirates, but it's always just complaining. And rightfully so.
Posted Tuesday April 29, 2008, About: Nady on Pirates trade block
THe new management team for the Bucs is trying to revamp what has been consistently one of the worst farm systems in the league for a long time. They'll trade Nady, Bay, McLouth, Wilson and anyone else who shows any signs of strong play so they can start from the ground up again. I know it's about the 15,000th time they've tried this, but the current nucleus isn't going to win so it's back to the drawing board again. New GM Neal Huntingdon was a big part of the Indians rebuilding that got them where they are right now, so hopefully he have better luck than Littlefield. Also, Nutting will spend money, not a lot, but probably around $65 mill, there's just no point in getting tied into long expensive contracts now considering that no one player can fix this team.
