So, his reaction to not having his hand shook is to stamp on Van Persie's face? Not to mention his well thought out goal celebration in front of his fans...I mean ex-fans. Maybe Arsenal can bring Vinny Jones out of retirement for just one match...at Arsenal. That would be fun.

You actually have to go all the way back to 1945 and Jack Crompton to find someone that United brought up. United have had a string of great keepers, but they've never grown one from within their system since the 40s. I actually couldn't "recall" it, but I did a little research for you.

Don't sell United short. Even without Ronaldo (great talent, but not a real team player once Madrid came a knocking) United are top notch and will fight Chelski to end for the title. The loss that hurts the worst is Tevez and his workrate. However, the partnership between Rooney and Berbatov is a more natural one (for their skills) and I'm betting that Rooney and Berba find at least 35 goals between them. Throw in another 10 or so eachfrom Owen, Nani, Valencia, etc. and I think United will be right around where they've been for the past couple years.

Fortunately, they still have Kuszcak who's been a pretty good stand-in for the past couple seasons. I've always thought that Foster was going to be pretty good for Utd based on what he's done while on loan at smaller clubs. More and more, it seems that he's not going to be up to handling the pressure of being on such a big team. I wonder if SAF is ruing the day he dumped Timmy Howard...

This season I think he will have more opportunity to play regularly and he'll show us what he's really made of. Hopefully, that means lots of goals.
Posted Sunday May 31, 2009, About: Will Raiders join 49ers at new stadium?
This is GREAT news.

We don't have enough money to fund our children's education, but we sure as hell need to be sure that we can use public money to fund a new football stadium.

If the damn 9ers and Raiders want a new stadium...they need to build it themselves...WITH THEIR OWN MONEY!!!

Rossi is a TURNCOAT!

Zizou is right about the Italian teams being loaded with Italian-based players. The 2006 World Cup team (if I remember correctly) had most, if not all their players playing in Italy.

FIFA needs to change eligibility rules. If a player is to commit to a country, it should be the one he was born in. That is, unless, of course his parents were on vacation or is a military brat, if which case he would be committed to wherever his parents were citizens of at the time of birth. Hargreaves would play for Canada, Adu - Ghana, Rossi - US, Subotic - One of the former Yugoslav nations.

He can't go now. The transfer window is closed and the MLS season doesn't end until November. If Pablo is going anywhere, it's not going to happen until the winter transfer window opens up.

And Zizou, you're right about his career with the USMNT...but I still don't believe that the red card against Italy was warranted.

Relegation would be AWESOME. However, because we're prudish Americans, we would never understand it and the league would NEVER NEVER allow the franchises in LA, NY or Chicago play in the lower divisions (of which they have no control over anyway).
Posted Friday September 05, 2008, About: Sources: MLS to change policy
It's simple. It doesn't matter when the league plays its matches, they just need to take a day off during the international calendar. It's something that's long overdue. Not to mention, in 2010 during the World Cup, the league needs to sit back and take the month off just like the NHL and WNBA did for the Olympics. Those leagues aren't any worse for having the time off and the MLS won't either.

Simply put, if the MLS wants to continually put a quality product on the field, they need to respect FIFAs international calendar.

It's not Bradley that needs removing it's that Nowak character. He's the one responsible for the debacle in China, not to mention doing his full-time best to wreck the promise that Freddy Adu once had (hopefully, he'll get it back). Keep Nowak away from anybody relating to the USMNT.

D-Wreck, Early on you mentioned that Guzan was close to qualifying for a work permit. What are the qualifications for qualification?
Posted Thursday July 10, 2008, About: Aston Villa eyeing American trio
The only trouble that Guzan will have getting to play for Villa is his work permit. He's got to be able to convince that he's going to be playing for the USMNT before he can get that permit though. If it goes through, I think he would be a steal for Villa.

Oh, by the way, Robinson's not a bad keeper. He just can't play on any stage larger than a league match at home. If Villa have European aspirations, Robinson certainly is NOT the man, much like David James.
Posted Thursday June 26, 2008, About: Villa eyes Tottenham goalie
The trouble with picking up Guzan is the lack of a work permit. As long as Tim Howard keeps featuring for the US (as he should because he's a freaking stud), Guzan will have trouble getting that work permit. However, with that said, his recent appearances with the USMNT could open things up for him to get that permit and perhaps make that much anticipated move to Europe.

UCLA Bruins = Buffalo Bills ONLY when the Bills go ahead and win 11 national titles. Until then, there is no comparison.
Posted Tuesday November 20, 2007, About: Did White Sox fleece Angels?
Think of it this way. Garland is more than ample replacement for Bartolo Colon. The guy they expected to give 200+ innings each year. He hasn't done that since he won the Cy Young. Someone here also mentioned flexibility and that's exactly what this trade does for both teams. From the sound of things, both clubs seem to think there are more deals to be had in the next month and this puts both teams (moreso for the Angels) in a position of strength to do a significant deal, either through free agency or a trade.

If the Angels aren't able to make a trade for a good bat because of this deal, this will not bode well for them.

The Angels should just do this deal. They'll save big-time by NOT having A-Rod. It'll move Figgins back to his natural position at 2nd. Figgins and Hendrick are similar hitters...little power, good average. Only difference is that Figgy has speed to burn.
Posted Monday September 17, 2007, About: Classy fan returns Thome's 500th
Nice job by both. Thome has been a stand-up guy his entire career. If more players were like him on and off the field, I think more fans would be more than happy and willing to give up these milestone balls for a little face time with the slugger (not to mention other goodies willingly parted with). I wouldn't be surprised if someone gave up Griffey's 600 ball.
Posted Thursday August 30, 2007, About: Earthquakes face stadium issues
When the Quakes were around, Galaxy fans (and Quake fans for that matter) would travel the 800 mile round-trip for matches between the two sides.
Posted Thursday August 30, 2007, About: Earthquakes face stadium issues
The vagabonding that the Quakes will do is GENIUS!!! The 1st Gen. Quakes practically ignored the greater Bay Area. They did little or no marketing in San Francisco and places east. By having the team pounce around the Bay Area for awhile will bring greater awareness of the team to potential fans. That way, when they do open up their new digs, people will travel 100's of miles to get there.
