To say Jeter's career has been overrated is something that has been claimed by many people, and is certainly debatable. Something that I completely disagree with though is you saying "He was not having a good postseason and the excuses were flying in, saying it wasn't his fault."
He led the team in the ALDS batting .364, and was on pace to have one of his better postseasons of all time (which is actually saying a lot, because he's had a lot of really good postseasons), and was basically the only Yankee that wasn't sucking.
As for replay and the specific blown call, it may have made a difference but I agree with your point, that ultimately the Yankees need to be able to score a run. Even if the Ump got the call right, the Tigers likely win 1-0 because the Yanks didn't get any across anyway.

Obviously he's not in his prime, but he did lead the MLB in hits and hit well over .300, so it's not like he's particularly washed up.
