Great TD and a really interesting, original topic so kudos to MF, but I ultimately voted right. An angle I hadn't really thought of but that he touched on in his first argument that really swung me was the non-stat sheet portion. There's so much more to a player than just his stats, and if you don't see them playing in person, you may not pick up on it.
I understand what you're getting at, and I can see both sides of the coin on this TD and I think it's a really interesting topic. I'm really not sure which side I agree with. On the one hand, I'm tempted to agree with Nerby because I feel like I do feel that way about current players (specifically Jeter), but on the other hand, I think it's largely because he's played for my hometown team and has been the star of the team, more or less, since I've literally been 2 or 3 years old.
I think the way you feel about Jeter is how I feel about a guy like Chipper Jones or other greats from this generation, that I respect how great of a baseball player they are, but it would be hard for me to place them among the all time greats.
Maybe it's having Jeter on the team I root for and having him been in the MLB for literally longer than I can remember life, but I do view him as having that magic and mystique. Sure I see him as being human when he gets hurt or gets out, but it's not hard for me to imagine players like Ruth or Mays getting hurt or out and I know it happened to them too. It's a good topic, I found myself agreeing with right's choice, and his arguments have confirmed that opinion.
I disagree with this as well, but right still makes some strong points. I think the main thing here was right's first argument, that players like Rose had a great legacy and career in categories that can't be classified by statistics. I don't think it's really fair to predict what future legacies of current players will be, though.
Big deal, I misread "since" as "in." At least I own up to it when I make a mistake as opposed to resorting to name calling and blaming people's insensitivity on a stupid TV show.

george.. The guy that bit the dust.."
So he died because he was, according to you, a tool towards his players? Not because he was 80?
