Enjoy Madonna and Kabala in the offseason Alex, you will have plenty of time to reflect.
Perhaps Giselle will have a miracle cure for Tom, much like she used for the Super Bowl last year, and he will make a comeback just in time for the playoffs.
What is that old saying Bill, something about cheaters never prosper.....
Wakefield might only be an average pitcher in terms of W/L & ERA records, but he is a winner who will do whatever Boston asks and is a definite thorn in the Yankees side when he faces them.
I think the Twins overplayed their hand because though they would have had less quantitiy of players from Boston or NY, they would have received more proven talent than what they got from the Mets.
The Mets need to get where Boston and NY have been, they are desperate and threw the necessary money to get Johann. Not a Red Sox fan, but certainly can't fault them for sticking to their idea of what was necessary to pull the deal off.
After being so badly burned by Petrino how can he be so willing to jump back into the college scene to turn his team around.
Lately when has a hot shot college coach proven his skills and style carry over to the pro teams to make this type of move.
Blanks claiming ignorance on Michael Vick, being burned by Petrino, turned down at the last minute by Bill Parcells, he is surprassing the reputation of the
Brown family who ran the Bengals into the ground for NFL owner incompetance.
Go back to selling nuts and bolts at Home Depot, at least you understand that market.
While Abreu may hit better and have the overall better arm, his attitude is a bit tiresome, playing when he feels like it, sloppy in the OF when he doesn't feel like it.
Bobby A. at one time was one of the best OF's playing, but his time with the Yankees has shown too much lack of interest in his defense. I would take Melky over Mike Cameron any day. if Mike Cameron is such a hot OF FA, why is going on to play for his 4th team and not drawing much interest in the FA market?
And yes the Marlins did handle the Yanks in '03, but that team is no longer on the field and if David "I hurt my back since I am so fat" Wells had finished game 5 the Series would have been different. I was at the Fla games and when Contreras came in he was like a deer in the headlights, just wilted under the pressure that the Fat Man left the Yanks in.
Go back to **** your bong since you don't know Yankee baseball.
He needs the money to pay for the extra size hats his ego requires.
Theo and the Red Sox seem to keep their cards must closer to the vest and will only want the deal on their terms, which if you are to believe the hype around Ellsbury, he would not be included in their deal.
While Theo only has to service the needs of Red Sox nation, Hank has to meet the needs of George, plus the Yankee fans, therefore he will do everything in his power to overule Brian Cashman to get Johann.
While the Red Sox perhaps overbid on the posting fee to insure getting Dice-K's services, you can't underestimate the publicity the club got when Dice-K officially signed. Certainly this was one of the actions in seeing the Red Sox become more popular nationally.
So even if Dice-K turns out to be overhyped and doesn't end up having as dominant of a career in MLB as he did in Japan, he still helped Boston win a World Series, brought tons of attention to the team and showed a load of class for the microsope he was under, all in all, not a bad inital return on the Red Sox's investment.
While Red Sox's managment may have some regrets, at least it doesn't sting like the Yankees disappointment with Kei Igawa, who definitely enjoyed more money in his contract due to the hype of Dice-K and did not deliver in '07.
As I Yankee fan I don't think the Red Sox are cheap, but they do seem to adhere to salary budgets and limits stricter than other teams do. They pay very well, just look at JD Drew or Julio Lugo, but the pay schedule still has to fall into the magical guidelines that Theo & team crunch in their computers. This adherence to these guidelines is one reason why ARod did not end up in Boston the first time, that and the union not letting ARod take the pay cut necessary to play in Boston.
Mike Lowell is a classy guy, a true professional and while his stats may not stay up if he moves out of Fenway, he still won't hurt you offensively, is a big improvement defensively for most teams and has the baseball knowledge to lead a team.
I think he will be partial to staying in Boston, but remembering how the marlins treated him his last year here, he may not give too much of a "hometown" discount to stay in Boston.
Bud Selig is more interested in protecting his friends in baseball than acting in the best interests of the game. This whole Mitchell report has been a farce from day 1, a tool used to show Congress & the fans they care about cleaning up baseball (of course they do) and as a hammer to threaten the players & union which has too much control over baseball.
What a beautiful thing talent and a tough agent are.
Then as the report is getting ready to be released some unnamed source in mlb will leak a few names to get everyone's interest up, the attorneys and players union will immediately go to court to try to suppress the report., once released there will be a bunch of noise for awhile, then we move on to something else.
Unless the report contains players involved in dogfighting, I don't think there will be much MLB can do. They chose to ignore the issues when the first surfaced and need some whitewash to show they are concerned.
Isiah Thomas makes stupid comments in the workplace, to an employee of an NBA organization, has the comments declared truthful in a court of law, is found liable for the comments and the NBA decides that they cannot take any action since it is a "civil" matter.
While losing his job might be too much, after all he should suffer for what he has brought to NY as much as the Knick fans do, but how about the NBA forcing some counseling, maybe a supension, or something to indicate it would not support that type of behavior from anyone associated with their organization. For while the Isiah works for the Knicks, they are just a "division" of the overall corporation, the NBA.
Not sure what Isiah has that protects him since he has been given opportunity after opportunity even though he has pretty much failed at everything since he left the playing floor, but it would be nice to be if we all could be rewarded for our past failures.
