As a life long Yankee fan, still sad to see Wakefield and Varitek move on, but time marches on. I always felt they were two of the more professional baseball players. Wakefield always gave the Yankees fits, he had a few memorable lapses, but that is the life of a knuckelballer. Tek was a royal pain, but a true competitor, who got a lot more out of the Red Sox staff than others. The nation will miss both, good luck to both.
You wonder why for an offense so dependant on passing that Martz ignores developing even an effective O line. What is happening to Cutler is exactly what happen to Kurt Warner with the Rams, the more Martz tinkers with the offense the more the QB gets creamed.
Tony got a fine parting gift with his contract extension after the Harbaugh fiasco, so at least he has some money in the bank. No wonder Gruden was so positive about the Fins in that first Monday night game, Ross probably spoke to him prior to kickoff about the job!!!
Looks like Andy has learned additional tricks from Roger and Brett Favre. Play hard to get see if the Yanks up the salary offer as you get closer to spring training. If your heart is not in it, stay home, showyou have more class than Clemens or Favre.
Not sure why Cashman is so married to a #1 pick. going back to 2000, excluding the last two years, only 2 Yankee #1's made the Yankee ML roster (Joba & Phil Hughes), Andrew Brackmun is on the 40 man roster, having an outside shot at the rotatation, so it is not like Mr. Cashman and his staff have outstanding success with #1's. Maybe he did not want to see the Rays get the Yanks slot.
Looks like Josh did not learn well enough from Billy B. before getting the Bronco's job. Perhaps after the Broncos fire him he can go back and learn better how to cheat.
Mr. Goodell, why not wait to make sure you don't lock out the players and blow up the 2011 season before you start dangling future Super Bowls in return for new stadiums. The arrogance of the NFL and this commish, whining for new stadiums in every city he visits. Have Mr. Home Depot, shell out some of his own money if he wants an open air, state of the art stadium.
If there is a God, Fox will soon follow by dumping Tim McCarver and Joe Buck, maybe keep Buck, but McCarver and his Gibby stories from the 60's need to go. Sad thing is when you look at some of the other "talent" like Sutcliffe and other former players there does not appear to be much hope on the horizon. Thank God for my mute button.
South Beach vs, Newark? Playoff team vs. a losing team? Pat Riley vs, a new Russian owner? Second option vs. the Man? why does the Post think a recap of the Nets losing LeBron would be interesting.
NFL players have been arrested for hitting their girlfriends and the NFL shows less intererst than checking out this cutie who received trash messages from Favre, don't suppose it has anything to do with how she looks?
When your manager has no confidence in your pitchers, and the manager gets resigned to a 3 year contract, someone has to pay the price for the pitching failure. Hopefully the next coach will be someone who can get Girardi to keep his book closed before determining how to make a pitching change and has guts to pitch to Josh Hamilton next year.
What a shock, Tony laRussa being interested in a player who used Steroids, or sorry took regular B12 shots for energy. Desperate times call for desperate measures, maybe Mark McGwire can coach more than hitting next year.
You could sense the disaster that are the 49ers are becoming when they made Vernon Davis the highest paid TE in the NFL, style over substance wins out in the west coast.
MLB may as well head to the playoff formats of the NHL & NBA, why not give every team the impression they are playoff contenders so they can soak the fans for even more money. This move will continue to make the regular season meaningless and only appeal to the "event fans" who come out to be seen at playoff games.
I think Bobby has a clause in his ESPN talking head contract that gives him a bonus for every managerial job he is mentioned in. Allows ESPN to show how smart their Baseball tonight crew is over the MLB network.
Why would this be a surprise, Pat riley would sell his soul for a title and remember LeBron said he was taking his talents to South Beach, not to Miami or to the Miami Heat. To be a player on South beach, you need a posse, why not have your posse on the team payroll versus yours.
Before ESPN and the highlights shows, these celebrations never took place, players took the win for what it was a hard fought game won in July, still leaving you 8 games back of 1st place. Now with TV everyone feels they must act like they are really excited because the won a game in the bottom of the 9th. Baseball another sport where professionals need not apply.
Great to be an NBS star now, you can be owner, without the financial investment or risk, GM without having to learn the business side of Basket Ball, finally player when the mood suits. Then if your ego driven decisions fail you blame the owner or GM, never yourself, for you are only one player on the team. Nice NBA David Stern has developed.
Have Mr. Home Depot, shell out some of his own money if he wants an open air, state of the art stadium.
