I'm with Leyland in that what is grating is not necessarily that he missed the call but the fact that Marsh still refuses to admit that the ball clipped Inge's jersey after watching a replay. Inconclusive? How can anyone watch and re-watch a slow-motion shot of that and insist that it's inconclusive? If Marsh can't tell the ball hit him with the aid of replay, what business does he have calling live balls and strikes? He's clearly guessing on most of his calls.

Ortiz is a classic one-dimensional "old man skills" player who bloomed quite abruptly (essentially out of nowhere) in his late 20's, became one of the top power hitters in the game, putting up huge numbers, and then, after some sort of injury/surgery, flamed out just as abruptly. See also Cecil Fielder and Travis Hafner for further reference. He might have a flash or two left in him, but Ortiz is essentially finished.

I don't know what this kid is thinking, but if I were him, I'd look at the Wings and think, wow, look at how this organization develops young, players out of Sweden... young players in general, really. I wouldn't just look at Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula, or Hudler (each representing the different stages of player development), but at the players that were cast off from other teams that became much better players. Dan Cleary's gone from a try-out to a pivotal role player with scoring ability. Mikael Samuelsson is a second-liner, for heaven's sakes. I wouldn't worry about whether or not I am good enough to crack the lineup. I would be looking to get into that organization as quickly as possible.

The dodgers dont want Inge? What makes anyone think the Tigers would want Nomar? Why would the Tigers part with a defensive dynamo who can play anywhere (including behind the plate) for a broken down has-been who can't even play third or stay healthy in the first place, let alone hit 10 HR in the NL? The Tigers have infield utility. What they need--more to the point, what they'll require for Inge--is middle relief.

Chris Pronger took a run at a virtually one-legged Steve Yzerman against the boards in the 2002 playoffs, and then cried like a baby when Yzerman got off the pass and gave him the old low-bridge, tearing Pronger's knee and taking him out for the playoffs. What a dirtbag.

I think they're going after clemens just because he's white.
Posted Monday October 22, 2007, About: Refs have it in for Red Wing?
Did anybody actually see the calls in question here? For example, a Zetterberg goal was disallowed because Holmstrom was standing in front of the goalie, blocking his view of the puck. Despite the fact that a defenseman was laying into him, Holmstrom kept his skates completely outside the crease and never even came close to making contact with the goalie (who was playing back in the net). All of the sudden, Holmstrom can't stand on white ice to screen the goalie? It was a total bull call, and was characteristic of similar calls that Holmstrom was harrassed with throughout the entire West Coast trip. Later in that same game, the Coyotes scored a goal in which a Coyotes player similarly screened Hasek, and actually bumped him, as Hasek was playing toward the outer edge of the crease. No call there, and the goal was not disallowed. That's the kind of "special treatment" from the refs Holmstrom has been getting lately: whistles for completely clean plays. He is very good at playing outside the crease. Why should he get called for screening the goaltender legally? Isn't that what hockey coaches instruct their players to do? They are obviously picking on him, and in doing so are trying to take away his bread and butter. What I'm wondering is, why him and not anyone else?

Bonds to Rangers makes perfect sense. Isn't that where all the bombed-out 'roid heads go when their bodies betray them?

i wonder how much longer these Red Sox fans will praise Theo when Gagne blows his arm out in late-August.

A philosophical question: Is a black man born in the Netherlands not a black man?
