Who gives a flip about how fast he runs the 40?
TP might be fast as greased lightning, but he's a *QB*, which means that running is- just a wild guess- about 1/5th of his game, and even then, most of the time he's just trying to elude the rush, not pick up yards! Unless OSU is putting in the spread, his ability to read the defense, identify the blitzes and coverages, make adjustments at the line, and find/hit the open receiver are going to be more important more often than how fast he runs.
It looks like Pete manage to exploit a gray area... and you know what? More power to him if he's successful. That's called testing the limits and it's part of what makes a winner.
And asdfgaeb, you clearly have no idea about recruiting, do you? There are a lot of factors that kids consider when choosing a school, and frankly, championships probably are fourth or fifth on most lists. For example, if I were being recruited today:
1) playing time/depth chart
2) school's visability to the NFL
3) system
4) academics
5) tradition
6) recent history
It may vary from recruit to recruit, but virtually every single kid looks at winning SEC or National championships as being a single step on the path, not the ultimate destination.
Just a guess that it is (b). Good job. Way to represent.
Anyway, the primary reason the NHL eliminated the two-line pass was minimize how effective the Neutral Zone Trap could be by doubling the amount of ice that had to be covered. And if you actually look at the scores for the Wild's games last year, you see that only one out of every 4 were low-scoring affairs on average... which I imagine is probably very close to the league average.
Or you know, just talk trash and make yourself look like a fool to people who actually understand the game.
I'm not going to call him a liar, however, even if it doesn't take great business acumen to figure out he should capitalize on his recent success sooner rather than later. And honestly, it doesn't even matter very much: UF is a top job, and they probably could get whomever they wanted. Hell, I hear Jon Gruden and Mike Shanahan aren't coaching this year...
If the University presidents [b]really/[b] want to do something about this, they'll create a code of conduct and shell out the money for a security force to actually enforce it.
Look, the bottom line is that CFB is all about the money now, but I gotta think that there is incentive for the networks to have these marquee OOC games to televise-- the hype around Bama-VT and UGA-OSU next season hopefully will wake the suits up that there is some serious, serious revenue to be made with advertising dollars for matchups such as these, and so maybe they'll offer the schools (all schools, not just UGA & UM) incentive to get it done, because if we're relying on stuff like 'strength of schedule' to try to convince these ADs to schedule bigtime, bowl-esque matchups *during* the season... well, we're f***ed. They're going to look at revenue first, foremost, and always, instead of what 'would look good to the BCS selection committees (but only if we win)'
But this situation is really messed up. Think about it: Crabtree has gotten only postive pub up until pre-draft, and since the Seahawks were considering him, I've read a lot about how he travels with a 'posse' lately. Not that that is a cardinal sin.
The thing is, Leach hit a home run with the comment about Mangini's success. I don't give a **** about his 'pedigree', I'm convinced that I could do as good a job as he has to this point in the NFL. And I am so, so sorry that the Browns drafted Mo Mass from my school... He could be Hines Ward 2.0, but I don't see it at a screwed-up organization like the Browns.
No, I'm serious guys: I feel like I read this story last year-- maybe not pistol-whipping, but USF player getting in trouble in South Florida, something about broken eyesockets, coach distancing himself from the kid...
I think I've seen this movie before. I think the AD down at USF needs to start pondering "what price fame"?
Yes, this article doesn't say that he's out drinking, but wasn't the report from Denver that he partied hard? Just saying, you move to a new city, new fans, new teammates, you might want to work a little harder at first to create a good first impression, right?
Of course, the way the media and most of the Bears fans were slobbering over Cutler, I doubt that he felt that was necessary.
Toss him into the fire immediately, and he'll probably struggle much the way he did when he was thrown into SEC-level competition as an 18 year old freshman (and btw, that year is where the majority of his bad stats come from). The good news? Unlike J.Harrington, even if he struggles, the kid will just motor through it. It won't break him. I think you Lion fans are going to be pleasantly surprised. Oh, and to the guy who said that he'd switch to pulling for the Vikings if the Lions picked Stafford, you realize that you now have no choice? Just admitting that you'd be such a **** fan gets you shown the door.
I think the one legitimate knock on Stafford is that he's not an 'in-your-face' kind of guy. Some people take that for him being passive, but he's not. He's intense, just not very demonstrative... and frankly, that will work a LOT better in the NFL than it will at the college level.
And that's if he even makes the cut academically at ND. As much as I hate ND (Hey, my father played ball for Purdue- I grew up loathing the Irish), they do have higher academic standards than a state school.
So, give him a scholly, have him redshirt (he clearly needs to develop a bit more physically), and make sure you're not putting all your money on him being a superstar. I'd hate to see a repeat of the Applewhite/Sims debacle happen at UGA.
However, the thing I was waiting for just arrived, so no more tilting windmills-- it's back to work for me.
Ya'll have a good day.
A good example: while you might be enthused about having 5 running backs who were highly rated recruits, they haven't DONE anything yet, so you can't point at them and say "Hey look! See? There's proof we're going to be successful!" Sorry; I appreciate your optimism, but I'm not going to take your word for that, particularly when you have already explicitly demonstrated that you're not the most impartial judge of what is going on in Volunteer land.
Had you said "I believe in my team, and you shouldn't count them out, even playing in the Swamp; crazy things happen in the SEC", well, that's called being a fan. But by saying that the Vols are going to 'clobber' UF? All I can do is roll my eyes, write you off as an irrational fanboy, and completely discount anything you say ever again.
