If baseball would get out of the Stone Ages things like this wouldn't happen nearly so often. Why do all golf professionals have high-speed video of their swings, but no team seems to bother doing that with their pitchers? Everyone, including Zumaya, just shrugs like it's inevitable. Why was there so much talk about Tebow's terrible mechanics? Because people in the NFL bother to examine those things. Unless MLB and its clubs have a serious re-think we're going to be having this same pity-party for Strasburg in a couple of years. His mechanics are terrible, too, and it's just a matter of time.

All the fanboys who say it doesn't matter what the Yankees pay him will be booing Captain Dreamboat off the field when he is stinking up the joint for $30M a year at age 41. The history of the major leagues is long and the list of great shortstops over the age of 35 is short. If he gets $40M for three years he will be very lucky and the Yanks will have overpaid. Nobody else in the big leagues is going to offer him anywhere near that; nobody else would even consider signing him to play shortstop. He will sail into the Hall of Fame on merit, and, yes, the Yankees have loads of dough, but they will not throw $100M at this guy just to make him feel good.
