Right next to bowling and the NHL...well at least one of those is still actually playing. It's ok old timer with soccer being the 2nd most popular sport in the US among people not dying in the next 20 years. I get your pain, I know the pain you feel when you call soccer boring. I have recently suffered through another season of MLB. Nothing like that five-hour, 14-minute snoozefest that was the Indians and Jays game last April. The average MLB game is almost 3 hours, so I know you appreciate a borefest when you see it, and with the NFL about to be neutered and turned into the flag football league we will all know boring. Hey! Chin up sport, at least we will have the NBA. Constantly moving, few interruptions, predictable lengths just like.....wait...I see what you did there....
I will give LD some credit though. He *tried*, he was young and away from the states. He did it at a time, unlike now, when there really wasn't a ton of US nationals playing overseas. I am *sure* it was hard. He came back, did the MLS, grew up, became a good player, at that point this is where Friedel's comments ring true. He *could* have gone back abroad, he *could* have maybe even been *great* for *great* leagues. He will be forever be a *great* player in a mediocre league and a average player in the premiere league**. **Maybe he would have/could have done more at Everton. Sad thing is we'll never know.
He took the PC route but, sorry LD, this is the truth: ???You get a player like a Landon Donovan, who in my opinion chose to take the easy road and stay in the States. It???s much harder to ply your trade over here. [The Premier League] is the best league in the world to play in, and this is where [Dempsey] got better in my opinion. This is where he became one of the best the United States ever produced.???
We can say whatever we want about LD, this fact will always remain - what if? Is he one of, if not the best USMNT player ever? Yes. What if he would have jumped ship to the EPL or Serie A or <insert better-than-MLS-league here>?
Say what you will about that comment but Wondo has been the most active forward consistently (off the ball movement, that is) and looks much hungrier then Juan or Jozy
That is a tactical error by Ferguson. He put too much faith in Cheech who was completely anonymous except the I'm really good at being offsides. He needed to come off at 2-1 but there was no striker (of any caliber) to replace him. Also pulling Park further up in the center was a mistake too. Messi's goal was one of miscommunication between Park and the defender (forget who it was)
Speaking of Gold Cup. Some interesting omissions from El Tri. Gio and Vela, specifically. I have to say, Gio must just be TOXIC. I mean, the kid has clear talent, first Barca let him go and now Tottenham seem to want to let him go now too. Sad. I am curious to see how well Chicharito does without that world class service he gets at ManU. The kid is dynamite and makes me nervous. As does the thought of a 4-3-3 with Vela, Gio, and Cheech up top. They would dominate our back line (if they could place nice with each other) if we weren't having a very, very good day.
