How about this scenario?

Her attorney is seeking a counter-offer, something to the tune of "Ben will admit no guilt, but will give you "X" amount of money if you drop the charges and agree not to talk, write a book, appear on Oprah, etc. and just go away"

Happens all the time in this type of suit. Offer, then counter. Kind of like haggling with a car salesman.

Let's not underestimate Staal's value in areas other than scoring - which are stellar. He's a huge element of the Pen's PK. Also, when you look at what he brings, plus what appears to be a ton of offensive potential still to come, he's signed at a very reasonable number.

He's also the main reason the Pens can roll a Crosby/Malkin combo line.

Besides, if/when they dump Satan and Gill (sorry big guy, you are too slow), they have room to sign Syk.

Dear Dullards,
One question. If the officials did indeed try to give the Steelers an assist in winning then tell me:

Why would they call holding in the end zone and award the Cardinals a safety? Everyone knows "holding can be called or not called on every play", right? So why not let it slide since the Steelers picked up the 1st down on the play?

Then, when "the team the refs/NFL wanted to win" got the ball back with little time on the clock, TRAILING in the game, WHY, WHY do you call holding on the very FIRST play of the drive and pin them at their own 12 at 1st and 20?

This is hardly fair of the refs if their job was to give the game to the Steelers.

Give me your stupid excuses Fox Mulder.

I didn't have money on the game, so I can let the bizaare ending R.I.P. I'm more cheesed about the overall officiating throughout the game. How many "holding" calls were made? Jin Nantz, forever the NFL apologist, would say, "oh yes, you can clearly see Hines Ward (or whoever) has his hand outside the defender's arm.

So technically, yes, it's a marginal holding call. But the thing is, when you watch replays of the Chargers on offense, you see the EXACT same thing happening and NONE of it was called.

I understand that teams have to adjust to how the officials are calling the game. But the refs HAVE to call the game the same both ways.

Seriously, with the NBA betting scandal, you can't be too sure these days. On appearance alone, it sure looked like one of the officials had 10 large on the Chargers yesterday.

In the long run, Byron is no better than Batch was. He's ok for a spot start or two, but over a long haul he will hurt more than help. Get well soon Ben.
Posted Thursday October 23, 2008, About: T.O.: Romo better than McNabb
Wat a completely ridiculous non-story. I'm anything but a Dallas apologist, but what is he supposed to say here? That his former QB is better than his CURRENT one? That, of course, would have been a WORSE transgression.

Stupid.
Posted Tuesday October 21, 2008, About: Pens putting Crosby, Malkin on same line
Cmon guys, the season isn't even ten games old, and already talking power trades? Several new players plus key injuries. Going to take some time to mesh.

Trading Staal? Stupid.

Putting these guys on the same line (from time to time, mind you) is just trying to shake things up a bit.

Pens will be fine.

Posted Wednesday October 08, 2008, About: Lack of holding penalties angers Colts
I agree that the Colts are one of the worst holding offenders in the league.

At the same time, I am amazed with the holding that Jax gets away with game in, and game out. I watched pass rushers get dragged down from behind when they had beaten their blockers all night long in the Steeler game, and NONE of them were called.

This discretionary and arbitrary use of the holding penalty is ridiculous. Call it - consistently, or eliminate it all together.

Eagles would be the most likely spot for him to land. You think TO wants to compete for balls with ANOTHER receiver when he's already pouting?

Posted Monday September 22, 2008, About: How long is Westbrook out?
With Westbrook in the game McNabb was a machine of completions. The Steelers had to respect Westbrook's ability and not sell out the blitz. The Eagles O was simply not the same after the injury. Fortunately for Philly, their D is the real goods.
Posted Tuesday September 16, 2008, About: How bad is Big Ben's injury?
Here's a thought.
Why wasn't Rogers hit with a flag for his hit on Ben in the second half. Ben threw a pass, then Rogers continued towards him for a good three steps, lowered his head, aimed, and popped Ben directly in his bad shoulder.

The hit was clearly aimed at further damaging the shoulder and was most definitely late. This was the only time Ben was clearly in pain during the game.

Considering Woodley got whacked with a 15 yarder for a hit on Anderson in which Woodley was in the air before Anderson threw the ball, there should be some equity here.

Deliberately hitting a QB in his throwing arm/shoulder can end a season every bit as quickly as a shot to the knees or a blow to the head.

And if you doubt what I just wrote, take another look at the picture above. Pollard has a Patriot RB LAYING ON TOP OF HIM!!!

Under that scenario, how can he come at Brady from any other direction than low?
