Not knowing the intricacies of the relationship between Mike and Jim, it's hard for me to opine about this tidbit. But all the same, I think Mora should be stepping in in Holmgren's absence.

But...but..."car", "auto", "vehicle"...these sound nothing like "whip".

If it takes 2.6 million dollars to try and execute a Ted Bundy or a John Couey or a Dennis Rader - so that we're absolutely SURE before we stick them with that syringe, Im all for it.

Okay, I have to jump in with a thought nagging at me. eyesWIDE, your argument about the cost of the death penalty versus the cost of life without parole is backed up with facts now, and I can believe it.

But the original argument that several of us were making, is that the death penalty is valid in certain cases. If the system were not "broken", and rightly convicted murderers were put to death in a timely manner without the long drawn-out "death penalty trials", would you support it?

Yeah! Grrrrrrrr!!!! Those people should just STOP IT!

Reminds me of Jim Carrey in "Liar, Liar" when a repeat criminal client calls yet again asking for legal advice. He holds the phone out and says, "Stop breaking the law, a**hole!"

Disc golf? Anything like Frisbee Golf? Sounds like fun. I'm up to nothing whatsoever. Just relaxing after a very difficult week of work.

Yes, it is Frisbee golf, but I must redirect--Frisbee is a brand name, and disc golf is the sport. It IS fun! And the best thing is, around here, that I get to go for a stroll in the wilderness.

What's shaking in your part of the world IAM?

Well, the sun is shining, and I plan on a round of disc golf after work...you?

True, KP...but then, if we condone executions, are we really better, no matter how justified we feel in doing so?
SafetyBlitz | 05/31/08, 06:34 PM

I think you're thinking too hard about it, Blitz. One murders another in cold blood. The murderer is put to death. Very simple.

<sung to well I like Pina Colada's>

Well I like my gin and my tonic
Put a lime in the mix
Just the taste of that coldness
Gives me just the right fix !

Now I've got that song stuck in my noggin. I would like to thank you, KP, for the right frame of mind.

I think we've all missed something here--People who do the things that bring them to death row should not do the things that bring them to death row. I'm not talking about the wrongly convicted here, I'm talking about the thugs, gangbangers, punks, etc. who have no regard whatsoever for other people...who kill, and feel no remorse. Who take what they didn't earn, who rape and murder, who cause their OWN demise.

Then you would be on trial for taking justice in your own hands.

My point, exactly.

We may not want to admit it on the outside, but deep down? its not justice, Its a jumbled mix of vengeance, retribution and anger.
KPKahder-Problem Solved

I would have to agree, if only in the scenario of some bashtard breaking into my parents' house, gruesomely killing them, and I caught them. I would put a bullet in their head so fast, that I would definitely be feeling a jumbled mix of vengeance, retribution, and anger. But I would certainly have meted out some justice, there, and the courts need not be bothered with it all. Just me.

Sounds good to me.

Me, too. I'm, uh...I'm in my, err...late '20's...yeah! That's the ticket!

The one thing that stuck out to me in this thread, is the idea that the death penalty is "retribution", or "vengeance". But it's neither. It is called justice.
