As opposed to Edmonton having the first pick, what, three years in a row... Stop talking like you know anything about hockey, you saw that Edmonton has a ton of young prospects, everyone went gaga over them signing Schultz, and you decided "I'll jump on the bandwagon before anyone notices!"

Wings have been top contenders for 20 plus years....After Z and Dats is Franzen, Flippula. Then we have tons of prospects who are dominating over seas. Kronwall is better than all the defenders on Edmonton. And we haven't even begun to talk about Howard vs Khabi...go back to Canada....

THANK YOU! Someone who thinks Hudler isn't an All-Star. That's all I keep hearing "he had 50 points this year!" "Great move by Calgary!" - When has anyone put that sentence together...

I for one don't want Nash. We could get Ryan for less, costs less, and is younger.

I'm concerned that Holland is panicking. That Suter deal was the dumbest thing I've ever heard, 13 years 90 million? He is no where near that good - Minnesota is gonna find that out. I liked Holland's Gustavsson pick up, like TooToo ... too (long as that idiot with the train whistle doesn't come with him) Samuelsson, eh, whatever. And signing Brunner, great move. Our development system is top notch, Nyquist and Smith are ready to go, with Jurco and Pulkinnen breathing down their necks.

If we're going to make that big an offer for a forward we don't need, why can't we do that with a top tier defenseman??? Take a deep breath and exhale Holland...

CBJ. Easily. Everyone is saying another lockout is on the horizon. Which is just absolute stupidity....
Posted Wednesday July 04, 2012, About: Red Wings bring special guest to woo Suter
This is an awful move. He will be the 3rd highest paid defender - for what? What has he done? Such a panic move. Same with the Rick Nash trade to Detroit speculations. Trade half our forwards or prospects for an albatross contract...

Can someone tell me why Suter is about to be paid like the third best defender? Is he a Norris Trophy candidate? Is he going to lead us to a Stanley Cup? Such a terrible move - I hope he doesn't take it.
Posted Monday June 25, 2012, About: Wild have the cash to land Parise and Suter
I hope Pens do get Suter. You'd think they'd have learned from Michalek and Martin. Guess not. Same for the Flyers, they up turned their entire team, remember when Richards and Carter were the problems, and Jagr/Brzygalov were the solutions? Shaking head.

I hope the Wings sit back and watch everyone over bid for these two. I bet Semin lands with the Flyers, cause that makes no sense so obviously the Flyers need him. Or the Rangers.

Wings are bringing back their entire offensive team, sans Hudler - which is a plus in our eyes. Our biggest problem is filling the whole Lidstrom left behind. Which can't be filled. So don't blow the 20 million in cap space chasing a guy whose numbers are tainted because he played with a real superstar defenseman in Weber... I would rather you offer the money and picks to go after Weber and not get him.

Homer retires, Bertuzzi gets relegated to third/fourth line. Sign Penner...

Posted Thursday June 21, 2012, About: Wings have nearly $20M to spend
As a Wings fan, I'm a little worried. We have a phenomenal opportunity to, not rebuild, but reshape our defensive foundation. And I don't think Suter is the answer. In fact I'm really worried we will give him big money and he won't pay off.

We can't replace Lidstrom, so why try? Stuart was ever becoming more of a liability, and Rafalski was a forward playing D. Kronwall is now the leader of the D, and his physical attitude should be reflective of the rest of the D squad.

I'm also reluctant to sign Parise. Our problem is not that we need scorers. We have plenty of those. We need BIG skilled guys. Guys who don't get swallowed up by the opposing teams defense come playoff time, like has happened the last 3 years.

This is what I think should happen. Let Hudler walk, re-up Abs, sign Parise, sign the Schultz kid from Anahiem, trade Filppula, Kindl, and a high pick for Bouwmeester.

First line: Nyquist/Dats/Franzen Second line: Bertuzzi/Zetterberg/Parise Third line: Abs/Helm/Eaves Fourth is Rooks and make shift squad. D-Men are Kronwall/White/Bouwmeester/Ericsson/Quincey/Schultz/Smith.

Boom. I should be GM...
Posted Wednesday August 03, 2011, About: Weber, Preds nearly $4M apart
Wait? Which recently signed D man? Ericsson? Or Ian White at 2.85 million? And that's an awful lot of ifs, mine only hangs on Nashville not paying him. The mothership is already saying that it isn't about the money, Weber was offered a contract above 7 million. It's about playing for a contender. And Nashville has done well, but they've never been a threat.

Also - once the arbitrator rules, teams can either take the contract given, or release the player and he becomes unrestricted - see Niemi and the Blackhawks last year. So Nashville will take whatever the 1 or 2 year deal is, and then try and trade him through out the season, which will be tough for the Wings - no way Nashville trades him to interdivision rival. So, we Wings fans have to hope that the number reaches 7 million, that Nashville sees they can't sign Weber, and Suter/Rinne next year, and let Weber go...probably not going to happen.
Posted Wednesday August 03, 2011, About: Weber, Preds nearly $4M apart
Because at the time, Hudler was the balls. He was good in 09, in 2010 he scored 54 points in 54 games in Russia, then came back to the US and bombed... He'll be gone, so will Filppula, Emmerton. Detroit is eagerly sitting, waiting for whatever the arbitrator rules. If not, then there's always Doughty who is having a similar problem in LA (who knows why, LA is scary...)
Posted Wednesday August 03, 2011, About: Weber, Preds nearly $4M apart
The Devils need to come up with a backup plan for the ever aging Brodeur first...and didn't they splurge on Volchenkov last year??? And have a rough time convincing Parise to stay? Just saying Nard...
Posted Wednesday August 03, 2011, About: Weber, Preds nearly $4M apart
Dallas. Phoenix. Edmonton. Probably Toronto (they'll find something wrong with him). The Islanders....
Posted Wednesday August 03, 2011, About: Weber, Preds nearly $4M apart
I hear what you're saying Nard - but the signs don't lie... Preds filed for arbitration to buy more time to sign Weber without outside influence, and they still haven't gotten it done. 10 cases in the past have gone to arbitration, with 9 ending up on different teams. Even if the Preds do sign Weber for, let's say $6.5 million, they are a low market team that doesn't spend, which will make it difficult convincing Suter/Rinne to stay, and still bring in talent - always making them a fringe team.

Now you know why Detroit is being patient. They have 5.8 million in cap space, and can easily clear 3 million if need be. If/When Lidstrom retires next year, that's another 6.2 million off the books. Who was Weber's Olympic coach? And what team has been a Stanley Cup Contender for the last 20 years?

Shea, if you can hear me - you will be loved in Detroit!

I see a Red Jersey in Weber's future!

(whispering) Detroit....hello, Ken Holland - did you see this article???

Steve Yzerman's not stupid - he'd take the four 1st round picks in a heartbeat.
Posted Monday July 04, 2011, About: Leafs offered Richards more money
That's because tampa would be smart and take the 4 first round draft picks and watch Toronto struggle to make the playoffs every year.
Posted Wednesday June 29, 2011, About: Chance Ehrhoff will sign on Long Island
I completely agree. Teams should make moves to help their team. Phoenix did with Bryzgalov, and it made them an immensely better team.

But, I don't see how Snow thought Nabokov made the team better. Maybe that's my issue.
Posted Wednesday June 29, 2011, About: Chance Ehrhoff will sign on Long Island
I can say Damn, but I can't say Ace Holes.
Posted Wednesday June 29, 2011, About: Chance Ehrhoff will sign on Long Island
Again. I don't disagree with the picking him up. I disagree with WHO picked him up. If the Flyers snagged him, then I'd go - DAMN, Oh Well. And again, why bother, you know he's not going to play for you. He didn't even leave Russia. They're just doing it to be **** and using the "well it's in our rights and it'll help our team" as cover.

As far as the trading - you're right, my bad. But can't they trade him now that the season is over?
Posted Wednesday June 29, 2011, About: Continued selloff in Chicago frustrates players
Well, they have a good core, and these last moves give them cap flexability now. Their captain is still B.A.M.F.

But they have to hope Crawford plays out of his mind again and that the scores of rookies that will pour in give the top line enough rest it needs.

Buff, Ladd, Versteeg, Barker, Burish, Brouwer, Madden, Skille, Niemi, Campbell, Kopecky...
