all Im saying is you need to get some perspective. It starts at a much more basic level than the govt. Race isnt the only bias. Race doesnt dominate. Ideals and thought processes do. They become dominant when they outnumber the ones who DONT share those thought processes or ideals

my point is that you can't cure the individual of racism until it's erased from the system. it seems like with the race issue, it'd be much easier to go from the top down rather than bottom up. it's much easier to change policy than it is to change people.

but the government is comprised of individuals.
Its not a govt thing, its an individual thing.

no, racism is not an "individaul thing." racism is a nationwide problem that permeates all levels of society from the individual to the federal government. racism exists in the public sector just as much as it is in the private sector. go look up countless cases of housing discrimination in places like Long Island or look up death penalty statistics involving race of suspect vs. race of victim.

it's also worth noting that the VERY LARGE majority of the individuals in govt. is made up of members of the "dominant" race.

i will say, though, that racial divisons are taking a backseat to class divisions in America. regardless of what color you are, if you don't have the right economic opportunities, you're not going to advance. sadly, that all usually depends into what location you are born.

The govt cant "stamp" out racism. Thats like trying to stamp out smoking weed. Its not going to happen. Its an individual decision.

the government can't stamp out racism because of the racism that exists IN THE SYSTEM.

his chances of victory are irrelevant.

i probably won't vote in this election because a)neither of the Democratic candidates are liberal enough to earn my vote and b)in CT, which will go Democrat, my vote is essentially useless. the Electoral College renders the franchise powerless with the exception of a few states; it needs to be aboloished immediately.

you arent implying that Boston was as bad or worse than the south?
Why? because of the whole busing and desegregation? When was the last time we had a race problem in Massachusetts ?
Lay out some facts please.
How was Boston so much worse than any other major city ?

i'm just saying it's not surprising that there was a race issue in Boston, not that Boston is any better or any worse. i live in one of the most segregated states in America so if this happend at a Bridgeport Bluefish, New Britain Rock Cats, or Connecticut Defenders game it would be no different. Boston is no better or worse than any city in America that has had race problems--which is pretty much....all of them. the mere fact that we have to debate whether or not the country is "ready" for a black president is abfuckingsurd.
Posted Wednesday April 23, 2008, About: Hunter reveals racist Fenway taunts
I think more appropriately, you should have said
racism? On Earth? You dont say.
Dont single out Boston. Im sure there are millions of people globally and nationally that can point more locally than solely choosing Boston to blame racism on.

yes, that's obviously true. but when a city has such a negative track record with race relations, such as Boston, it's much easier to point a local finger.

don't get me wrong, the United States as a whole has a whole lot of race issues to deal with and anyone who thinks that equality exists in this country between the races---or classes for that matter---is delusional.

At least in America we do not practice genocide as other countries are now doing.

racism? in Boston? you don't say.
Posted Tuesday April 22, 2008, About: Yankees don't want Big Hurt
why are you all saying Frank is "broken down?" yes he's gotten off to a slump but in the last two years, he has 65 homers and 209 RBIs. he's hit that many homers in 997 ABs which is good for a homer every 15.33 ABs, which is pretty much right at (actually slightly better than) his career average.

also, April is Frank's slow month. he has his lowest split AVG (.283), OBP (.407), SLG (.513), and OPS (.920). so basically, Frank is a "slow" starter. the Big Hurt also started slow in April and May last year and he finished up pretty well. this was a dumb, panicky move by the Blue Jays.

Did anyone see Baseball to night where Manny asked Peter Gammons if he (Peter) thinks Manny's a HOFer? Of course Peter said no doubt and I agree.

Has the light clicked in Manny's head? If so, we could see something special this season like him or not.

anyone who DOESN'T think Manny is a Hall of Famer is a complete and total moron and knows nothing about baseball. as much as i hate the team he plays for, Manny Ramirez is one of the best right handed hitters of his generation.

as for this story....it's a non-story. if Manny did that to Ortiz, it's just "Manny being Manny." if Matt Holliday did it to Todd Helton, no one would know a damn thing. if Ryan Howard did this to Chase Utley, no one would care. if Carlos Beltran did it to David Wright, no one would give a rat's ass. if it's a Yankee, it's a story.

Oh I had to be with Kerry? Were you with Bush or Cheney in the ramp up to the war? Oh I see...that was different.
Forskins | 04/16/08, 10:29 AM

actually, yes, they are completely and totally different. one is a non-public issue that happend during a war. the other is public information that was well-documented before the plan of action was excecuted. the events of a battle in Vietnam are completely different than the planning and staging of the war in Iraq. now, the War on Terror and the Vietnam War are incredibly similar, but that's a conversation for another day.

what a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid story.
Posted Wednesday April 16, 2008, About: Tillman's widow breaks silence
then he was vile and disrespectful. that doesn't change the fact that he served and did what he did. does the fact that Jim Bouton wrote "Ball Four" make him any less of a baseball player? no, it doesn't. what Kerry said after serving makes him no less a soldier.

Kerry was just one of the many soldiers who joined the anti-war movement after coming back home and that's nothing out of the ordinary.

while we're on the topic of Vietnam, i'm gonna plug my two favorite Vietnam books:

"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien
"Dispatches" by Michael Herr

Wow. While I agree with alot of that, Im not sure we can blame the Brits for this one.....lol

haha, i know. i'm just saying there would be no country called "Iraq" if not for the British randomly drawing one in the 20s. i take an unhealthy pleasure in bashing the Brits, though--i should probably stop....nah. anyone who claims their the descendeants of Aneas with no historical documentation--and who opressed countless peoples during their empire's reign--deserves my chastizing. =)
Posted Tuesday April 15, 2008, About: Tillman's widow breaks silence
i blame Iraq on the British--i also blame the problems in Africa on Europe, but that's another story. they arbitrarily drew lines in the middle east, making up a country and completely ignoring the fact that they were mixing up 3 ethnic groups that did not get along and still don't get along and probably will never get along...

a possible solution in Iraq is to just give all 3 major groups their own country but the pitfall there is that it leaves minorities wide open to genocide--and i don't htink the Turks would be too happy with the Kurds having their own country.

regardless, the war in Iraq was an unecessary one and it just goes to show that America's liberal foriegn policy (spread democracy, pump up free-trade/globalism) will be it's downfall (Realism--think Cold War politics--isn't any better though).

Pat Tillman's death, while tragic, will just end up as another statistic with an asterik in the inevitable failure that is the war on terrorism (how can you fight a war on an idea? fighting a war on terrorism is like fighting a war on free speech or democracy...it's bound to fail). while his death was more public and "celebrated", it is no more tragic than the deaths of the thousands of other Americans and tens of thousands more Afgahnis or Iraqis (be they civiian or combatant) who've died since the fall of 2001 and spring of 2003.

we must remember that Americans are not the only ones dying in this conflict and that a lost human life is a lost human life, regardless of what flag he or she flies.

but if i must leave you all with one thing, it is this: blame the British. every single problem ever in the history of the world can be traced to blaming the British. seriously.
