Complete non story. If Steinbrenner guarantees him another year, it becomes the kiss of death in the media, and Steinbrenner becomes a fool if makes a change. Girardi knew the deal when he got here, and if he handles the club the way he has, and the Yanks win 91+ games, he comes back - unless Bobby Valentine is available and wants to come back to NY. The renaissance of the younger players under Girardi this year is spectacular, Coke, Hughes, Cano, even Cabrera and Gardner are performing more than admirably. Teixeira, Sabathia, and Burnett really haven't had a first year jinx, more up to May jitters. This is by far the toughest division in baseball, and just a few more wins against the big boys and everyone is going to think Girardi is doing a great job.

I am a big Pettitte fan, but his hemming and hawing and "integrity" are getting a bit much. The Yankees stood by him last year, and if it is about the money, then man up and say so, just like Burnett or J.D. Drew.

One would think there is something seriously wrong mentality with Delmon Young to give up on him so early and for the Twins to paint themselves into a corner. That Matt Garza trade is not looking good now. I can't see why someplace like Milwaukee or lower key area might not be a great place for him to mature.

One of the best hitters ever, maybe the best overall of the last 10 years, except possibly for A-Rod. Manny is much better in the clutch, the most relaxed I've ever seen. As he gets older, it becomes more challenging to put up numbers over the course of a season. AS good as Papi might be, his career has gotten a huge boost because Manny hits after him.
