Is it time to get rid of the allocation system or what? Guys coming from overseas should be able to chose which team they want to go to, without that team having to give something up (unless its a transfer fee) to another MLS team.

I think its a ridiculous process, something that makes the league look all the more silly.
Posted Wednesday June 18, 2008, About: Ronaldinho to reject Galaxy bid
Any one else noticed the other problem with the bid? How could the Galaxy have gotten him on the team? They are already using three DP allotments (Donovan, Ruiz, Beckham), one more than what is supposed to be allowed. If they added Dinho(I know its not happening), that would only go to show how willing the MLS will bend the rules in favor for the Galaxy.

Also, the allocation for a player such as Dinho would magically work its way back around to where Galaxy get the first choice? Shady stuff. I wish the league would operate on a legitimate base.

Another central midfielder? Is that something they actually need? And for Milan, why get rid of him? There are so many more players you need to replace, but I don't think Gattuso is one of them.

If you say someone is available this early, then you are basically devaluing the player. If everyone knows he is available and that you are desperate to get rid of them, then you would have to sell them for cheap. So thats why they would say this.

Personally, I think he will either leave this summer, or next. Can't see him staying for the length of his contract.

this is why you can't believe any of these rumors. Last week, it was basically a done deal between AC and Ronaldinho, and now its still on with Inter? I will believe he joined a new team when he is out on the field playing a game, wearing that team's jersey.

Yeah Irish, I believe its chester. Of course that would never fly with MLS or any other league here. Although to remedy that, they could have chosen a site within Philly for the stadium. oh well.

jeeves...... Bayern is the name of the state in Germany in which Munich lies in. Bavaria is the english translation, but Bayern has no direct relationship to football (soccer) the official name is FC Bayern Munich

@ sitonmeandrot

I know that lost of teams have SC attached to their name in Europe, so i really have no problem with that. But its contradictory of so many people who are against using European names for the teams here in America. Just as quickly as they are to point out that its dumb to have a European name or moniker, they then say that we should use SC on the end of the name, not knowing how many European clubs use the same thing.

@ BuffaloTF

Thats what I think as well. the only problem with the Philadelpia team is though, from what I hear, they won't actually be playing in Philadelphia, and instead outside of the city. I understand that it would be harder to get a stadium inside the city, I just think a team should be named from where they are from, and not the biggest city they are associated with.

hm, i dont think using SC is a good idea either. Why does a team have to be named after Santa Claus. Plus, aren't we in America suppose to be politically correct. So it would have to be something like happy holidays. So that would Philadelphia HH. Which makes me think of hungry hungry hippos.

Seriously though, the no FC thing makes no sense. Just because Americans lack to vision to accurately describe their own sport, doesnt mean that us actual football fans should have to suffer with a SC. Throwball would do wonders for actually describing American football, as opposed to football being called 'football'.

Another example would be the name for the basic premise of american football. A touchdown. Any guess as to where touchdown comes from? Ah, rugby. Where you actually have to touch the ball, to the ground, to get credit for a try. American football, not so much? You just kinda have to get the ball near the area, sometimes at least.

Also, a nickname isnt the only descriptive way for which you can name a team. The name of the club itself can be descriptive. For example, there are many teams in London. But they aren't called London "(Insert nickname here)". Instead, there name gives a description of their location. Chelsea and fulham are Burroughs of london, in the same manner that the Bronx and Manhattan are to new york. Arsenal, used to be located next to, an arsenal! So instead of naming a team New York Red Bulls, you could instead named them The Bronx Red Bulls (provided thats where they actually play) The Washington Redskins dont play in Washington anymore (they use to), so why are they still called washington?

Anyways, to make a quick point, I dont want any SC teams, because I dont think its right to name a team after Santa Claus. Plus if we had a bunch of SC's then it might be hard for Santa to choose one.

Philadelphia Athletic Football Club is the perfect choice....... takes a name that is used in Europe, and also plays on the name of the old baseball franchise. The Oakland Athletics used to be in Philadelphia. The baseball team way back was called the Philadelphia Athletics. So i think that would be perfect.

he has the speed, and he has the touch.... but watching him at school, im not too sure about his finishing ability. But that will hopefully improve over time.

Everyone giving their ideas about where to have teams just goes to show how many more teams there should be.

North Carolina does not have any teams-- you could put 1 in or around somewhere in Carolina.

Rochester-- They have the USL team there, but instead of trying to compete with another team in the area, why not just invite Rochester and other established teams into the MLS

Philadelphia would support a team, as would St. Louis. I'm sure you could fit a few in Florida, maybe one more in Texas. Also, you could easily put another Mexican supported team in LA. Imagine a team sponsored by by America or Pachuca to rival the Chivas sponsored Chivas USA team.

And finally, both DC and New York could support more team. Probably only one more in DC, but in New York, possibly 1-2 more teams. Like they have done in LA, they could try to get an Italian club such as Inter or AC (or even both) along with Juventus to sponsor teams in New York, and tap into the Italian culture in New York.
