*I just read

I just the post press conference interview with Albert. I will never clap for him again. He's still saying it wasn't about the money. I'm done with him.

I agree that Furcal and Beltran would be good pick ups as long as they aren't looking for long term deals.

Don't you know that Houston is PO'd right now. They thought they were getting away from him.

Boy was I wrong! I still think it will turn out to be a bad deal for the Angels in the end.

Okay, now what? We need to greatly upgrade two of three players up the middle - 2nd, short, and center. Is there really anything available? Do we have anything in the minors the Marlins would be interested in? I think they will have to trade Ramirez this winter or they will have some real tension in the locker room.

I agree on looking at a short term deal for Beltran. Second seems to be a tough place to upgrade unless the Braves decide to blow up their team.

He has no choice but to sign with the Cardinals now. The Marlins are out and there never was a mystery third team.

I don't know how long he's going to stall; but, I think this is a done deal.

I'm not convinced Albert would have signed an extension before now. I believe he's planned on testing the market all along. The only extension he would have signed would have been one exceeding A-Rod's deal.

I think you've covered our needs pretty well. The middle infield and the left side of the bullpen. I like the idea of trading Westbrook and signing Berhle. Lohse isn't happening because he's not waiving his no trade under any circumstances.

1. No one was as good as Ruth. It's not even close with Williams who is the next best.

2. There were many hitters who were better than Aaron early in their careers. Aaron's uniqueness was his ability to continue producing at a high level late into his 30's.

Very few have continued at very high levels late into their 30's without enhancements. Many have peeked at 32 or sooner like Mantle, Foxx, Allen, Howard, Griffey and a very long list of others. Count on the odds, not the 1 in a 1000 shot when gambling with millions.

I'm thinking the Cardinals are streching it with the $200 million offer. He has more value to the Cardinals than any other team. I'll be surprised if anyone pays more. I'd rather they let him walk if someone is silly enough to come near the A-Rod contract.

I'm a Pujols fan, but a Cardinal fan first. I don't want to see the team hamstrung on payroll for 5 or more years.

It's on their own MLB website so it's definately true.
Posted Monday October 31, 2011, About: Goodbye, Tony and THANKS for the memories!
He's 67 in what has to be a grueling job. Good for him going out on top. And yes, thanks for some great memories
Posted Friday August 26, 2011, About: What Gives?
I think everyone is completely, perhaps willfully, ignoring how much the impending Pujols free agency is affecting this team. I think that's what gives.

More recently, we've seen how this pitching staff will perform in the post Duncan era.
Posted Wednesday March 09, 2011, About: Lohse
Lohse could be huge in softening the blow of losing Wainwright. He obviously can't replace Wainwright. There's only a handful of pitchers who could replace Wainwright. Lohse could come up big the way Duncan expected.
Posted Friday February 25, 2011, About: Pujols
The injury to Wainwright is going to raise the Pujols issue quickly once the season starts. This team is full of holes and question marks. There's not going to be anything to talk about except Pujols. Pujols is about to feel long lasting extreme pressure and tension. I'm not sure his personality is one to handle it well on a relentless never ending basis. I think he'll blow before the season is over.
Posted Wednesday February 23, 2011, About: Wainwright
Yep! There's no way to replace Wainwright. Unless of course Philidelphia or SF are willing to send us their ace for a while.
Posted Saturday February 19, 2011, About: Edmonds
I saw a couple of national reporters stating they believe he has a better case for the HOF than Andre Dawson. Why not? The offensive numbers are similar and Jimmy was a great center fielder to boot. Nah, hell never make it in. He's still one of the all time great Cardinals.

Anyone else notice that one of the Cardinals most successful periods coincided with Edmunds presence on the team? I sure did. Once Jimmy slipped, the team slipped.

... and no, I don't think the team would cave on the 300 million. I'm just not sure how I'd feel about that. I guess what I'm really asking is whether Albert has started burning bridges with the fans in St. Louis.
Posted Friday February 18, 2011, About: Pujols
Yep, and if they raise payroll, they're going to raise prices substantially.
Posted Friday February 18, 2011, About: Pujols
How would you feel if the team caves and gives Albert 300 million?
Posted Thursday February 17, 2011, About: Pujols
According to Joe Strauss Pujols was offered some stake in the Cardinals.
Posted Thursday February 17, 2011, About: Pujols
The Angels might want him instead of the Angles.
Posted Thursday February 17, 2011, About: Pujols
I don't know Ten, it only takes one team getting crazy or desperate. The Angles may be getting there. There're playing second fiddle to Texas in the division, and second fiddle to the Dodgers in the city. Maybe a superstar like Albert could put them over the top on both counts.
