While both of your points I agree with hence lies the fact that Starbury was a distraction for the team and Sprewell attacked the then coach.
Isiah Thomas accused of sexual misconduct and a terrible coach!
Yes Sprewell and Starbury accepted roles off the bench but its not like they lead the knicks to the promise land.

It apprears the rockets have given up on him.
I mean it was him that said "its on me aight its on me" as it relates to the success of the rockets.
I mean the furthest they got in the playoffs with T-Mac on the roster was last season and T-Mac was injured, Yao got injured late and of course they credit there run to Ron Artest & Brooks.
If only he can get healthy an get back to that great 02-03 season he had.
Next season he is a free agent and if healthy a team just may bite.

The clippers let Brand go for nothing so im sure they will let a good 3 point shooter with length go for a good defender and an average shooter!
