Eliminate Oakland (which is also struggling with stadium issues) and Tampa Bay (I would say Miami, but they have the new stadium) and move an NL team to the AL to regain the balance of the league schedules. That would do away with the requirement of a daily interleague game and the absurdity we see in some teams' schedules in September. Contraction is the best answer, but it may be difficult, if not impossible, for the Players Association to go along with it.
Posted Wednesday December 26, 2012, About: Yankees catcher of the future?
The team needs to get younger and Pierzynski did not accomplish that. As a 50+ year Yankee fan, I have enjoyed enough high points to be willing to miss the playoffs one year to give the young position players and pitchers a try. Is there not a corner outfielder somewhere in the farm system who can be brought up for a shot? Whatever happened to Dante Bichette's kid? Also need to get Nunez taking infield practice three times a day.

I am not sure I could learn to "unhate" him. At least Clemens went to Toronto for a few years before coming to the Bronx. Damon was unrecognizable without his caveman look, so it wasn't quite as offensive. Boggs was not the quentissential Boston player in my mind for some reason.

Wow, I had the exact same thought. There must be someone in New York that can make that happen.
Posted Friday November 02, 2012, About: Yankees hoping Swisher turns down offer
Agree on that - Swisher has been a nice regular season player, but certainly not worthy of calling any period his "era." The only real "era" player at the moment is Jeter. "Nightmare" is more like it for Arod over the past three years and every year in the playoffs, save 2009. $13M is too much for what Swisher brings to the party, particularly with the post season pathos. Yanks need to learn from observing Baltimore, San Francisco and others that you do not need a big contract at every position to win. A few reliable leaders with the big bucks and enthusiastic role players supported by solid pitching will win championships, maybe not every year, but no one is going to win every year.
Posted Friday May 25, 2012, About: Strasburg hampered by arm issue?
Someone told me that Eddie Feigner (sp?) the famous fastpitch softball pitcher of "the King and his Court" fame was asked how he could keep his velocity and pitch control into his 50's when baseball pitchers generally flame out by 40 and his reply was "my arm does not naturally hang straight up."
Posted Tuesday September 13, 2011, About: Texas trying to keep Oklahoma from leaving Big 12
Why did Nebraska and Mizzou want out? Unequal revenue sharing and greed by Texas. Why does TAMU want out? Unequal revenue sharing, Longhorn network and greed by Texas. Why does OU want out? Unequal revenue sharing, Longhorn network and greed by Texas. See a pattern? It is not those leaving that deserve the blame, it is the greed and refusal to share revenues (to keep them one step behind) that they could no longer stand. Sure they voted for it before, but the deeper Texas has stuck it to them, the more it drove them out.
