Exactly which team is FL scheduling instead of unranked Miami? The article doesn't say, does it? Unranked Miami is scheduling crappy USF instead of FL, but for all you know, FL is scheduling an extra opponent from the SEC west, or a perpetual top-20 team.
First of all, I missed the part of the report where it said that UF would be playing a cupcake in the place of UM; in fact the article DID say that UM would be playing crappy USF, so we can be sure UM is playing a cupcake. Anybody on this thread talking about "UF dodging UM for a cupcake" is also probably a mere hater, talking out of their ****-sphincter. That's fine. That's what they do.
Just in the interest of shining the light on the dark, grubby, idiot-masses that pollute this thread with their mental-diarrhea: The biggest economic boon for a home cupcake game is a W, moving you that much closer to a BCS bowl game or SEC championship. That translates into even more lucrative TV contracts down the road, as well as merchandising, better recruiting (which helps continue the cycle, etc.). That's why ALL teams do this (including Miami). Why should FL voluntarily be the only one not to?
Now, as to why they might use what could have been a UF-Miami weekend to schedule a cupcake (if they do it, the article didn't say they were, it said UM was), my theory is because Miami fans aren't pleasent people to be around, and the city of Miami is expensive, dirty, and unsafe (much like the UM fans - at least the dirty and unsafe parts).
Gate money? They could make it free, and it wouldn't make that much difference to the program. They just use that money to keep the stadium pretty (and it's really not enough for that, either). But keep thinking that's the reason if it helps you feel superior.
But besides all that, who really wants to be exposed to all the Miami trash if you don't have to? Nobody likes playing Miami, whether or not they have a good team, b/c they're such unpleasent people to be around. I would rather play LSU or even GA twice a year than Miami once every three. The tailgating is of a much, MUCH higher caliber.
Now, for perfect comic effect, the Fridge will go to ND, Mangino to MD and Weist to Kansas. Please, diety-of-your-choosing, let it happen!!
Sorry. This isn't even a mediocre program. Yes, Tate and Clausen connect every once-in-awhile against a service-academy defense. So what? And what the hell does that have to do with this non story anyway(Tate and Clausen not talking about coach - Really? Did they ask Hardesty about it when they fired Fulmer?)?
