1) winning. who doesn't want to play for a team that wins year in and year out REGARLESS of who you play (take note LSU, Oklahoma, and dare I say LSU?). You want to play for a winner and A GREAT coach. A great OOC every year...yes minus this year...plus a great conference to play in. Now SEC boys I know you're going to have a little trouble with that one but yes there is football outside of the South!
2) tradition. yes, people above the Mason Dixon line have tradition, and the Big Ten/OSU is full of it. the big house. the shoe. the only two-time hesiman trophy winner. the biggest rivalry in CF lives here! and not just Big Ten fans have said that. multiple surveys, polls, whatever taken on this has confirmed it. I don't even need to go into the implications the OSU/Michigan has had in the past 50+ years
3) facilities. if anyone has ever seen the student athlete facilities at OSU they would be blown away. everything is state of the art, absolutely incredible.
4) academics. The Ohio State University, as the biggest campus in the country, is a degree that you can walk away with that people across the country will respect and recognize as a rigorous academic institution.
5) NFL. OSU has the 3rd highest amount of players ever drafted, and only one behind USC in terms of the number of first round picks.
but anyway, about FOOTBALL... : )
how many times do we have to see OSU get blown out in the NC game? the only time that has ever happened is ONCE!! people need to stop livin in the past - aka last year. And PS....the Big Ten is 8-6 the last 5 years against the SEC in bowl games. not 4-7 or whatever record was thrown out there
And yes, I think the BTNetwork (which I HATE and so does pretty much every B10 fan in Ohio) should get their own version of CourTv. Then maybe we could have some guest stars from LSU (Ryan Perrilloux's and Derrick Odom) Tennessee (Arian Foster, David Holbert and Antonio Wardlow) Georgia (Tripp Taylor), etc. etc. etc.
Just a thought!
All in all though, I actually do have great respect for teams below the Mason-Dixon line. Well...minus Florida... :)
Your SEC all time record against the Big Ten is actually wrong...I'm not sure where you got that number from (63-45). While the SEC does hold the record in terms of wins, SEC vs. Big Ten is actually 66-61-7. So, like I said, the SEC does have a slight edge against the Big Ten. But, as you and almost every other SEC argues, the SEC does not DOMINATE over the Big Ten...there is a 5 game difference in the history. I am NOT arguing that the Big Ten is the best conference out there. I'm saying they're not as "weak" as everyone says they are. I mean 66-61-7? Come on now, at least have only a semi-biased argument
But I guess if you want to go off that, we'll talk about Lloyd's SEC record in bowl games. '99(beat Arkansas), '00(beat Bama), '01(beat Auburn), '02(lost to TN), '03(beat Florida). I think thats 4-1 against all those "amazing" coaches in the SEC.
Also, we rank based on last year's record now? I see...sports writers see how last year's team was based to determine the top spots for THIS year. Hm, then I guess after Floridas embarrassing, humiliating 62-24 NC loss to NEBRASKA in '95 meant that they shouldn't have played for the NC in '96 or shouldn't have been ranked #1 either.
Newsflash: college football does not revolve around the SEC. (shocking, I know)
Richt has also said numerous times that he wasn't trying to disrespect the Gators. If anyone saw the end of the Georgia-Vandy game, Richt exploded when his players were stopping on the V in the middle of the field...his intent clearly was clearly not to taunt Florida. He needed to create that emotion for his team somehow. I mean when your team loses 15 of the previous 17 times to the same team, you gotta do somethin different!
I don't get how you can say that the Big 10 is "less talented" in coaching? Funny...Les and Urban both coached at Big 10 schools before heading down south (Michigan and Ohio State, respectively). Oh and I forgot, Nick Saban too (Ohio State AND Michigan St). So it looks like we know where that coaching talent comes from! And please, 2 of the top 3 winningest coaches in college football history are currently at Big Ten schools.
And writers love the "inferior" Big 10? Which writers would those be!? The ones that literally belittle the Big 10 every week? Please show me who these sports writers are that love the Big Ten...because I'd love to read their articles!!
There are 54 CURRENT NFL players that played at OSU, and Ohio State has the second most first-round selections in the history of the NFL draft, one less than USC. Those NFL coaches and owners must not know what they're doing! :)
