14 and OH's Comments

Posted Saturday November 10, 2007, About: Ga. DL recruit visits Ohio State
The kid might want to come to Ohio State for a couple reasons...although looking at his list of schools it might be a long shot for the Bucks because it looks like he might want to stay close to home. But here's my shot at it:

1) winning. who doesn't want to play for a team that wins year in and year out REGARLESS of who you play (take note LSU, Oklahoma, and dare I say LSU?). You want to play for a winner and A GREAT coach. A great OOC every year...yes minus this year...plus a great conference to play in. Now SEC boys I know you're going to have a little trouble with that one but yes there is football outside of the South!

2) tradition. yes, people above the Mason Dixon line have tradition, and the Big Ten/OSU is full of it. the big house. the shoe. the only two-time hesiman trophy winner. the biggest rivalry in CF lives here! and not just Big Ten fans have said that. multiple surveys, polls, whatever taken on this has confirmed it. I don't even need to go into the implications the OSU/Michigan has had in the past 50+ years

3) facilities. if anyone has ever seen the student athlete facilities at OSU they would be blown away. everything is state of the art, absolutely incredible.

4) academics. The Ohio State University, as the biggest campus in the country, is a degree that you can walk away with that people across the country will respect and recognize as a rigorous academic institution.

5) NFL. OSU has the 3rd highest amount of players ever drafted, and only one behind USC in terms of the number of first round picks.

and I love how SEC fans hide behind Florida's win last year against the Buckeyes. yeah Florida is in the SEC...but that doesn't mean the rest of y'all would kill OSU like Florida did! Instead of throwing out unsupported opinions like "Ole Miss would beat OSU" why don't you throw some insight behind that. Maybe talk about both teams' defense, balance on offense, turnover ratio, points allowed..anything?

wow I take offense to those comments!! no "hot" co-eds in Columbus, or I guess "the north" for that matter? pale fatties huh...wow you people really do live in a bubble! comments like that make me just disrespect southern people with ignorant comments like that. trust me darlin, NONE of my girlfriends are pale fatties...

but anyway, about FOOTBALL... : )
how many times do we have to see OSU get blown out in the NC game? the only time that has ever happened is ONCE!! people need to stop livin in the past - aka last year. And PS....the Big Ten is 8-6 the last 5 years against the SEC in bowl games. not 4-7 or whatever record was thrown out there

That actually is the record of the current teams and when they belonged in their respective conferences. And actually...your BCS bowl record is totally wrong. And since you yourself said those are the only bowls that matter, the Big Ten for the past 5 years leads 8-6. Look up the teams and the scores if you don't believe me. The Big Ten has also produced 5 Heisman Trophy winners the last 15 years, to the SECs one. Real weak! :)

and See Dub, great name for the coach from up north! I actually haven't heard that one before. And in regards to Zook...whose players are at Florida right now? :)

And yes, I think the BTNetwork (which I HATE and so does pretty much every B10 fan in Ohio) should get their own version of CourTv. Then maybe we could have some guest stars from LSU (Ryan Perrilloux's and Derrick Odom) Tennessee (Arian Foster, David Holbert and Antonio Wardlow) Georgia (Tripp Taylor), etc. etc. etc.

Just a thought!

And I actually really wish that OSU and LSU could play each other down in N.O. I really do think that it would be a great game. Ohio State has not played against a top ten team yet, and LSUs offense has struggled in some games this season. (Tulane, UK, Auburn, etc.). I also think Les' play calling has been questionable the last couple of games. Do I think that LSU would kill them? Honestly no. LSU is not Florida, the entire SEC is not Florida. One conference cannot hide behind the facade of what ONE team did last season.

All in all though, I actually do have great respect for teams below the Mason-Dixon line. Well...minus Florida... :)

Deep South,
Your SEC all time record against the Big Ten is actually wrong...I'm not sure where you got that number from (63-45). While the SEC does hold the record in terms of wins, SEC vs. Big Ten is actually 66-61-7. So, like I said, the SEC does have a slight edge against the Big Ten. But, as you and almost every other SEC argues, the SEC does not DOMINATE over the Big Ten...there is a 5 game difference in the history. I am NOT arguing that the Big Ten is the best conference out there. I'm saying they're not as "weak" as everyone says they are. I mean 66-61-7? Come on now, at least have only a semi-biased argument

I apologize for the sarcasm, but come on dude at least bring some kind of legit argument!

So, to determine how good a coach is, you look at his record against SEC schools? Wow I had no idea....that's news to me...

But I guess if you want to go off that, we'll talk about Lloyd's SEC record in bowl games. '99(beat Arkansas), '00(beat Bama), '01(beat Auburn), '02(lost to TN), '03(beat Florida). I think thats 4-1 against all those "amazing" coaches in the SEC.

Also, we rank based on last year's record now? I see...sports writers see how last year's team was based to determine the top spots for THIS year. Hm, then I guess after Floridas embarrassing, humiliating 62-24 NC loss to NEBRASKA in '95 meant that they shouldn't have played for the NC in '96 or shouldn't have been ranked #1 either.

Newsflash: college football does not revolve around the SEC. (shocking, I know)
Posted Thursday November 01, 2007, About: Spurrier: Fighting fixes celebration
I actually think this was a great tatic for Richt to use. He has said numerous times that he didn't tell the whole team to run off the sideline and go celebrate. He said he wanted it to be a team celebration, as in the team on the field at the time. And it ended up being more than what he asked for obviously!

Richt has also said numerous times that he wasn't trying to disrespect the Gators. If anyone saw the end of the Georgia-Vandy game, Richt exploded when his players were stopping on the V in the middle of the field...his intent clearly was clearly not to taunt Florida. He needed to create that emotion for his team somehow. I mean when your team loses 15 of the previous 17 times to the same team, you gotta do somethin different!

To the SEC comments:

I don't get how you can say that the Big 10 is "less talented" in coaching? Funny...Les and Urban both coached at Big 10 schools before heading down south (Michigan and Ohio State, respectively). Oh and I forgot, Nick Saban too (Ohio State AND Michigan St). So it looks like we know where that coaching talent comes from! And please, 2 of the top 3 winningest coaches in college football history are currently at Big Ten schools.

And writers love the "inferior" Big 10? Which writers would those be!? The ones that literally belittle the Big 10 every week? Please show me who these sports writers are that love the Big Ten...because I'd love to read their articles!!

Deep South Sider, why are you coming into a thread about JoePa to make a comment like that? The comment about "well three years ago we.." was in regards to JoePa's recent accomplishments. What does that have to do with the Big Ten and making excuse? It doesn't make sense to talk about college football's second winningest coach (barely second) by turning something around and throwing the conference thing in there

"Tressel delivers more busts to the NFL than any other team" Do any of these names sound familiar? Anthony Gonzalez, Ted Ginn, AJ Hawk, Santonio Holmes, Will Smith, Michael Jenkins...and thats only going back a couple years.

There are 54 CURRENT NFL players that played at OSU, and Ohio State has the second most first-round selections in the history of the NFL draft, one less than USC. Those NFL coaches and owners must not know what they're doing! :)

the "little ten" sucks and is slow and small? how so? because we're 8-6 against a conference like the "fast" SEC in bowl games in the past 5 years? or because a team in the Big Ten (Ohio State) has had somewhere around 121 NFL draft picks since the Mid 1980s, only to be topped by The U and Florida State. Last I checked the NFL didn't want slow or small players! And although the Big Ten isn't AS competitive as it normally is, I wouldn't go that far...
Posted Monday October 22, 2007, About: Bowden considering QB change
I'd have to agree with most people here -- Bobby Bowden is florida state football! Both him and JoePa should be able to stay as long as they'd like. In over 31 seasons at FSU he's had ONE losing season, which happened to be his first one. I mean, while under Bowden FSU had finished 14 straight seasons in the top 5 of the AP poll. Let him retire on his own terms!!

Make it to a bowl game? Even if they win out the rest of the season (beating Air Force, Duke, etc.) they will still be 5-7... unfortunately still one game short of being bowl eligible.
