A third rounder who won't get to wear a Detroit jersey again for a couple of years at least! They could've used any of the current Cup winners. Datsiuk, Z-berg, Lindstrom, even Chili or MacCarthy!

Can someone please tell me who Datsiuk, Lindstrom, or MacCarthy is? I know of a Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and McCarty, but none of those three ring a bell. Someone please help me out here. My hockey world is turned upside down.

I don't know about you, but I would take those "backup" stats any day of the week. And as far as the Wings sweeping the Avs, I highly doubt that will be happening. But at the same time, how many times did the Avs beat the Wings this year? Zero. So while I don't think the Wings will sweep the Avs, I don't expect it to be a neck and neck series.

Oh...and if this was Sidney Crosby who pulled this, he would have gotten even LESS games, if he got a suspension at all. I admit this, and I'm a Crosby fan.

Will we ever know if race was an issue with this? No. It very well could have been. But I think the NHL has shown more of a history of favoritism in terms of stars and non-stars, not based on player race. Switch Iginla for Pronger, and I think you get the same suspension. Switch Lebda and Pronger, and Lebda gets the longer suspension. It's based more on name recognition, not race.

Also, as a Wings fan I'm torn on this. I've always been a fan of the hard playing, talented Pronger but despised the dirty, POS Pronger. One the one hand, I would love to see him gone for the playoffs because it makes things easier for the Wings. On the other hand, I want him in the Ducks lineup so that there will be no excuses if the Wings win. It's always better to beat the other team when they have their full lineup.

Let's clarify...the NHL is showing FAVORITISM, not RACISM. The rules are different between stars and role players, not the different races. Nonetheless, 8 games seems a bit short to me. I think they went that route because in Simon's case you could clearly see his intent. With the Pronger incident, you can make an argument (although I wouldn't) that intent is not as clear.

I'm a Detroit Red Wings fan, and it was a blow to lose Schneider. He was an awesome PP player and was more physical than most give him credit. I can't stand the Ducks, but respect their team. Best of luck to Schneider in his new city, and I hope he continues to have a hell of a career...as long as he doesn't do much when he's matched up against the Wings ;-)

I don't think you can say hockey has the worst officiating of the major sports (which hockey isn't even really a part off, as much as I hate to say it). When your league has referees involved with gambling rings, the Mafia, and he just happens to lead the league in calling certain fouls, you have the biggest problem (coughNBAcough). :-P

Oh and while we're cracking down on this phantom contact in front of the net, why don't we crack down on divers? The NHL did a great job last year, but in Detroit's last game againt the Ducks, Chris Pronger flopped in front of the net not once, but TWICE. If I remember correctly, at least one (if not both) calls went against Homer. I believe that was the game he was given five minors.

Anyone who thinks Holmstrom is a dirty player doesn't know the game of hockey. I bet they're the same kinds of fans who boo anytime one of their players gets leveled with a clean check. "Oh! My guy got knocked down! It MUST be a penalty!" I hate to paint people with a broad brush, but Anaheim fans are really like that. Learn the game before you try to judge how a player plays. Oh yeah, and agaist PHX, Homer may have had one skate in the crease, but was completely out and made no contact with the goalie by the time the shot was taken. That was a good goal. I can understand how some border line calls can go either way, but so far none of them have gone Holmstrom's way.
