Posted Wednesday June 24, 2009, About: Reds shopping for hitter
Now that it's the middle of the season, why are the Reds suddenly worried about getting a hitter? They weren't worried during last off-season, when the entire free-agent list of hitters was available at bargain values due to the recession.

Castellini is a total cheapskate.

Say what you will about Dusty Baker's in-game management skills, but keeping a team with a largely Triple-A offense at the .500 level involves some sort of leadership magic....

Why would the best team in baseball--flat-out loaded with young talent--need a geriatric has-been?

Posted Wednesday February 18, 2009, About: Report: Griffey picks Braves over M's
If Griffey is so obsessed with being close to Orlando, as we are constantly reminded, why doesn't he just offer his services to the Rays for free?

It pains me to say this, because I grew up in Georgia rooting for the Braves, but this will be an unimportant signing by an unimporant team.
Posted Thursday February 12, 2009, About: Glavine wants more money from Braves
It is a sad spectacle to see a likely Hall of Famer pathetically haggling over an amount of money that, by today's outlandish salary standards, amounts to peanuts.

Another one-time great who couldn't quit while he was ahead....
Posted Friday August 01, 2008, About: Mets contacted Sox about Manny
How predictable that we have to get a slew of stories about which players the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs FAILED to get.
Posted Friday August 01, 2008, About: Griffey era in Cincy ends on ugly note
jr. is the best player of his generation.
jwhit75 | 08/01/08, 07:13 AM

When all is said and done, you're probably going to be right. Unfortunately, Griffey probably isn't among the top 10 players of the last 10 years, and he isn't even in the top 100 right now.
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Griffey era in Cincy ends on ugly note
Oddly enough, alll of you, except for Grossedout9, who is largely incomprehensible as usual, are right about Griffey. Griffey, by all accounts, is a decent citizen and a devoted family man. From the stands here in Cincinnati, however, it is plain that he also is bored with baseball. He has pretty plainly become a lazy player and has plenty of moments of surliness, both on and off of the field, which the mainstream sports media likes to sweep under the rug, for whatever reason.
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Rays ask Reds about Dunn
Back in the old days, "moron" was defined as a "person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education."

An "imbecile" was defined as a "person of moderate to severe mental retardation having a mental age of from three to seven years and generally being capable of some degree of communication and performance of simple tasks under supervision."

An "idiot" was a "person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers."

I don't know what ranked below "idiot," but I think this guy has the qualifications covered....
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Rays ask Reds about Dunn
Dunn is Dave Kingman.
jgb | 07/31/08, 01:34 PM

For all his flaws, Dunn is actually a far better OBP guy than Kingman ever was. He is hardly a franchise cornerstone, but I think he would be a benefit to almost any MLB lineup. The only real argument is how much he is worth, either trade-wise or payroll-wise, or both....
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Rays ask Reds about Dunn
to jgb the only reason the reds are where they are is because of adam dunn. he leads the mlb in homeruns and has over 70 rbi's. get a clue dumbass
redsfan4ever | 07/31/08, 12:19 PM

You mean seven games under .500? Dunn is certainly a more valuable player right now than Griffey, and you are correct that the team would suffer from losing him. But Adam Dunn was born to be a DH, and certainly this will be his role somewhere down the road.
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Dodgers trying to get Maddux
It is sad to watch this future first-ballot Hall of Famer being bandied about as trade bait to fill in a third or fourth starter slot with a mediocre team.
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Dodgers looking for shortstop
Have you Dodgers fans heard any rumors about L.A. trying to swing a deal for Brandon Phillips? This rumor has been swirling around Cincinnati today. It sounds idiotic & improbable from the Reds' standpoint, unless they were to get Russell Martin in return.

bummer. wanted JR to stay. Hope he rejects the trade.
pw | 07/31/08, 11:22 AM

He has already accepted the trade, and thank goodness. Looks like Dunn might be staying for awhile, but who knows....?

Really great to see that T & R is on top of the Griffey trade.

Excellent work, fellas!

And I thought Seattle was supposed to be a hip, happening town.

Posted Wednesday July 23, 2008, About: Reds join list of Street's suitors
Dumb post by T & R. This blurb from the SF Chronicle has no content to it. No suggestion of whom the Reds might give up to get Huston Street, and no suggestion of why they need him. Although Cordero has been shaky for the last week, the Reds' bullpen in general has been much better than last year.
Posted Wednesday July 23, 2008, About: KU-UNC call Packer's last straw?
"Too bad Packer was right...the game was over by halftime ... he's still a tool though"
preach | 07/17/08, 03:05 PM

Illogical. Would you say the same game was "over" when, subsequent to halftime, UNC pulled within four points with eleven minutes left in the game?

Billy Packer was a tool during this game and almost every other game he ever called. Just a completely cantankerous and miserable jackass.
