The officiating in games 5 and 6 was horrendous, and certainly favored the Rangers (not that they have a power play). That is not an excuse, however. In the end, it was their goalie who made the difference. Two shut outs is impressive, and frustrating at the same time. The Caps played one bad game the entire series, which was game 7. Many shots, but not high quality shots and few second chances. Whining? Nope. To be honest, given that they had a new coach and 5 days with him before the shortened season started, I'm surprised they made the playoffs. They still need a few pieces, but I have to say Oates has done a pretty good job, and the team started buying into it the second half of the shortened season. The series was certainly exciting, regardless of which team you were rooting for....Here's to some more great games on the way to the cup!
Poorly written...the author meant that they are undefeated in THIS series at home. Having been at the 1987 Game 7 3+ OT against the Islanders (friggin' LaFontaine ****), I know he didn't mean more than this series...
There's a reason they call the playoffs the second season. In hockey, you never know. That being said, it's not the Caps' year. Because of the lockout, they had 5 days with a new coach. The strike hit newly coached teams harder. Holtby is playing well, so you never know...even with half a season, it still beats the NBA, hands down.
They are sluggish and disorganized. Yes, they have a new coach and had 6 days to prepare with him, but they are just phoning it in. Ovie has not had interest since he skipped the practice before game 5 of the playoffs two years ago...yes, the "captain" skipped practice. He has been terrible since the sewed the "C" on his jersey. And I'm a life-long Caps fan....the Wizards may get more wins!!
Perhaps he's trying to tell his "kid" not to let the reports go to his head, and that he has to play every game 100%. I have no problem with bringing these players down to earth....they will have plenty of time to stroke their own egos in the NBA, which is about all they do there...
Unless Jones already has a coach in mind, and knows that coach does not want to call plays, seems a bit premature to move the play-calling duties at this stage...then again, it is Jerry Jones, and his face is pulled way, way too tight...
If Trestman has worked with him, it is highly unlikely he would want him on his roster. I agree with those saying that Tebow is not an NFL caliber QB. He is built like a tough TE, and certainly has one of the best work ethics in the game. He should consider a position change, but it's my understanding he wants to be a QB. Yes, QBs, like lead singers, seem to get the hottest girls, but since he won't touch one, changing to the bass player (TE) should be a no brainer (no offense to bass players out there)....
I can't stand the Ravens, and just wonder when Ray Lewis will end up in jail. I hope the game ends with Ray Lewis picking up a fumble or INT, as time runs out, dashes untouched towards the goal line for the game winner, then drops the ball resulting in a Ravens' loss. That, to me, would be a perfect ending, and would likely speed up his journey into an orange jump suit....
As a Skins fan, I really don't care about the playoffs....not if it means risking a talent like RG3. Sit him this week and next, and if they are out of playoff contention by game 16, sit him for that, too.
Payton needs a QB to coach. That leaves Dallas and Philly out. Eli's getting up there in age, so if Coughlin goes, there's a shot. Wash has the best chance, except for Danny boy....My guess is that he stays loyal to the Saints...but would certainly welcome him in DC. Anybody want the Shanahan boys?
What JPP meant was "Hey, refs...look at me even more closely when I hit him"...what a tool. The Skins O line is not great, and will have its hands full...should be a good match-up...
Norv peaked as O Coord for Dallas....with that line-up, it was quite easy "everyone go out" ... I think Aikman designed the plays on his chest in the huddle, like we did as kids...when you have that line and talent, it made any O Coord a genius...
I watched the game....the Boys should have one, but are too stupid to do so. When you have the ball, with 12 seconds and you wander around for 8 secs before calling a timeout, and possibly moving closer for your kicker, you are a moron and deserve to lose. As a Skins fan, I have been saying for a few seasons -- if you want be beat the Boys, just get a lead and put the ball in Romo's hands....works almost every time.
If the WC is cancelled, the season is done...not what the NHL needs. It's friggin' October and I should be watching hockey. For us DC fans, it's really bad...we are left with the Wizards. Ugh....
(*Yes, we have the Skins, and it's the first time in Snyder's history that he may be building a team...still better to watch this season than previous ones...but I want my hockey)
In DC, the whining has been going on since April. If the decision was to limit innings to ensure a longer career, then it's the right decision. Imagine an injury during the playoffs...the same folks complaining about shutting him down would complain that they did not. Today is a must-win for the Nats, because going down 2-1 is never a good thing. If the Nats lose the series, the blame will be shutting Stras down and the 2-3 format. If they do lose, I will blame it on their lack of experience, which would be fair. Yes, I'm a DC guy, but grew up a Mets fan (picked them against the O's in '69 when I was 7 and have been a fan ever since), and like the Nats and wish them well. I think they will beat the Cards...the Reds will be a tough series.
Here's to some good hockey during the playoffs!
