case in point: longoria
If that occurs the only way for Portland to improve with their front court is through trades and the mid-level exception. Curry sucks, but he's def. at least mid-level talent, and has the "potential" to become better than that. At worst I see the Blazers pushing to get David Lee in order to take Curry back from the Knicks, which is what Walsh has been targetting all along in trying to jettison Curry.
Now the big "IF" is Curry plays exceptionally well in D'Antoni's system and the Knicks can just market Curry on his own talent. That would be a huge steal for Walsh and the Knicks could hold onto DLee as well.
Great owner, great up and coming team, and you have Jay Cutler. QB is the hardest position to find for a franchise, and you have a great young one there. He's gotta consider that.
As for Gilbride, he's not as big a liability you make him out to be. He's a super bowl winning OC, that's gotta account for something. And it wasn't until Plax shot himself and Jacobs got hurt that the Giant offense started to sputter this year. Gilbride has been doing a solid job.
Win SB 43, then get Osi and a whole new draft class added to that Giants team. DAMN
malibu now: I heard from my friends that there is a "stipulation" in Lebron's nike contract that if he goes to LA, Chicago, or NY, he will be paid an extra $100 million. If that's true then it doesn't matter how much more cleveland can offer in a max deal.
domdawg: You underestimate the excitment and marketing potential of Lebron moving to a large market. How was Shaq's rep hurt by moving to LA? Mussina or Giambi from moving to the Yankees? Pedro or Beltran moving to the Mets? In the end your reputation in your original city is *negligible*, the ONLY thing that matters is if you succeed in the big market. If you win you're glorified, if you lose you're vilified. It's that simple.
IF Lebron left the Cavs, yea Cleveland would hate him. But seriously the rest of the country won't care one bit. His rep and marketing potential will all depend on his ability to continue to play at a superstar level and potentially win championships.
