Nets,Knicks are both capable of way overpaying for him.
Its not the QB, after the loss to the Jets this team quit.
1B I heard the stupidest Omar thing yet: They might keep Delgado at first next season.. DUMB.
LF I would say they will try for Holliday.
They also need at least 2 starting pitchers. Lackey and Marquis?
I think the Mets also will need a SS, Reyes "might" be ready, we Met fans know Reyes heals slow.
If he is "right" TRADE HIM. Get something before he breaks down again--Redsox would be excellent trading partner here.
Could also use an upgrade defensively at 2b, Castillo is lousy at best.
The point: Mets have more holes than Swiss Cheese, not fixing it this year.
My bet is they try to kill payroll, they have too many holes to fix this off season. Reality is they need:
2 starting Pitchers Santanna obviously #1 Pelfry at 4 or 5, Maine as a 4-5 thats all we have at this moment. Perez?? nope, Niese maybe if healthy.
1 First base man- resigning Delgado would be stupid at best, using Murphy?? Not a good idea.
1 Outfielder - Holladay or Bay here would help.
1 catcher - Josh tholes might be the answer, if not they need to throw A-rod money at Mauer after the 2010 season.
Could use a real 2b Castillo might have some trade value this offseason after hitting decently.
Of course we have the huge Headache of Reyes at SS. I would hope he heals well but he is notoriously slow at doing so. If healthy TRADE HIM immediately, might be able to grab a good starting pitcher from a team like the Redsox.
The Mets need to shed their management core, Minaya and Manuel and start with someone fresh such as a Kim NG (she is going to be good) and Either Valentine or if you really want this team to learn the game of baseball Buck Showalter.
