Sure, Timmy has the right to say anything he wants. Whether it's wise to express that opinion in a very public way is where he is falling down.

Whether he likes it or not, he is a public figure, and people are going to take note of the things that he says (and posts). There is no line between what he is calling his personal life and his professional life; it all becomes part of his public persona. Angrily hiding behind "personal privacy" after making what he knows to be a hot-button statement is disingenuous at best.
