There is no way he lands up at Nebraska. Nebraska has Taylor Martinez, Cody Green, Brion Carnes, Ron Kellogg, and potentially (most likely not, but you can dream) Bubba Starling there. He couldn't beat out any of those guys. He had his chance to go to Nebraska when he committed there but then backed out. They've moved on and don't have scholarship room for him.
Is it so ridiculous these days that colleges look at kids in middle school? I was half kidding as well. Point is, he's a big time prospect and some Texas fans would take Gray over Brown if they had the chance.
I like Kubel. But we've got some prospects coming up that are going to take his spot. Aaron Hicks, Ben Revere, and Max Kepler are going to in the Majors sooner then later. So Kubel is expendable. And with the way the Twins have struggled in the playoffs, him going 2 for 29 means a lot. Hitting .068 is awful.
I guess you've never heard about the state hockey tournament here in Minnesota. It's a big deal. Pretty easy to find articles about it and the great players that have played in it. No need to be a hater.
Fletcher has done a good job upgrading the talent in the Wild system the last couple years. They've been far more aggressive signing college free agents (Wellman, Prosser). He's done a good job acquiring draft picks to bring in more young talent. Gillies looks like he's finally understanding his role. They've got a good head coach down in Houston with the Aeros (first in the AHL right now). It takes time.
They just need the dynamic goal scorer every team needs. We had it with Gabby, but he was made of glass and made a good decision in letting him walk.
Latendresse is suppose to start practicing within a week. PM Bouchard is still trying to find his game. Havlat has really turned it on the last couple weeks. We should be okay. And with a hot goaltender anything can happen in the playoffs. As long as Koivu is back by the playoffs, I like our chances with Backstrom in net.
Overall, the Wild are on an upward swing.
BTW, I wish there was some national high school hockey tournament. Then Minnesota could really show we're the best hockey state in the US.
You say that like they can. They have almost no cap room and not a lot of assets to trade. Only Brent Burns, Martin Havlat, or maybe PM Bouchard could be moved that would bring in quality players. Their depth isn't bad in the AHL. They have a ton of defense man that should be good, they just don't have that pure goal scorer they need.
