I didn't see anybody mention the fact that the spread offence creates bigger gaps for the defensive players to bull their way through. In college, you can get away with that, but in the pros, I don't think so. I like Urban, generally speaking, but I think he has no understanding of the pro level of the game.

ND certainly has the money. But will the next coach be any better? ND was a day late and a dollar short when they had the chance to get a coach who is even named after a pope, Urban Meyer. But Florida got there firstest with the mostest, as there really isn't any serious BCS school who can't afford a good football coach. Its all about picking which coach to throw the bucks at and then making it happen. There are a number of undefeated "second tier" schools out there (Utah, Boise State, and Ball State). Meyer coached an undefeated Utah before he left for Florida. But ND has always had a number of other worries in picking a football coach, so they never really go after "the right guy." I will predict right here and now that the successor to Weis won't move ND back into elite status, no matter what, although I would expect ND to return to regular bowl appearances.
