Free agent signings do not equate to playoff appearances mross81. If you don't believe me ask any Ranger fan. For years the rangers actively pursued any big name free agent they could get their claws into, and it got them nothing. All the while teams like the devils with strong farm teams and savvy draft picks dominated the league. In the ultimate irony the Rangers finally acceted the devils model for success and started trying to build a team from within, as it was intended, and they are finally regaining some of their former glory. So, sure Boston spent some money last year but in my opinion it was money they should have invested in some 1st class talent scouts and not over rated defenders like Little Z. Bottom line until the boys from Bean town get a legit goal tender and establish a strong farm system, they will remain where they have been for years, in the basement. An embarrassment to a state with strong ties to professional sports success.

Yashin has been a perpetual underachiever since his earliest days in Ottawa. He plays without heart and without any hint of consistency. HIs signing was just another link in the chain of bad Islander decisions. Yashin is a 3rd line player, at best and has no right making what he makes or wearing the 'C' on that team. Being a devils fan I truely hope they do keep him but, if they have any hope of building on a quasi-successful year, they need to off the dead wood, starting with their captain. Squash the yash!

If I am forced to endure the sight of Scotty Gomez in that putrid orange and black uniform, I may be forced to end my life. He did say that he would only play for a contender though, and while I think Philly will do a whole lot better next season, they are far from true cup contention.

OH, now i see why he was virtually invisible in the playoffs. tallying just once in 2 series, he was too busy worrying about his millions. I guess it is safe to say his former agent could be considered a liability, much likje elias in the defensive zone.
