That was way back in Week 2, with their best defensive player out and in a place they almost never win. Not to mention the horrendous field conditions, and the fact that the Bears had just been embarassed by the Packers. Judging by their last 5 weeks, that loss was an anomaly.

Doubt that will happen. Lackey has made it clear he wants to go somewhere where he will be the undisputed ace. That would not happen in NY.

I should note that everyone in their lineup has an average around that. Only three people are hitting - Drew, Martinez, and Ellsbury. Youkilis also has one hit. Ellsbury is the only one consistently getting on on a somewhat consistent basis. You might have a point if he was the only one hitting like that, but he is not.

True, the Red Sox (and the Cardinals in the NL, for that matter) have an infinitely better chance than the Twins, though I do think the Twins win one at home (which would be really ironic, considering Carl Pavano will be pitching for the Twins). The Red Sox and Cardinals have the pitching to come back from these deficits at home. The Twins do not. Nick Blackburn pitched the game of his life last night and they couldn't win.

If the Torre and the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the series (should that be the matchup), it would be ridiculously ironic. Steinbrenner would probably have a heart attack or something.

I think you misunderstood me. You suggested that all Boston fans think it ok when they cheat, but not OK when any other team cheats. I do not think it is OK when any team, including the Red Sox, cheats in any way, shape, or form.

The one thing I will note is that cheating is a very subjective term and some people will require more evidence than others regarding allegations of it. Some people only need some statement; others require additional proof.

If Varitek is still on the team next year, it will be as either a backup or some kind of consultant. Martinez has a relatively cheap option on his contract, and is hitting in the stratosphere compared to Varitek, so I will be shocked if the Red Sox do not exercise it.

I wouldn't really say Beckett "laid an egg" - he pitched a good game, but the offense basically forced him to do everything, and that just isn't fair to any pitcher, even one as good as Beckett.

No, I would say most of the blame goes to the offense, where 2 or three guys are producing and that is it.

There was a really similar one on the Red Sox site, maybe they copied it from there. But that one was posted before game 2.

It's still an interesting question, but the answer, as I mentioned above, it now a no-brainer. They would have to bring back Lester.

I do find it hard to believe they won't win at least one game in this series. I actually wouldn't be suprised if they won both in Boston and sent this back to LA. We've learned in the past not to count this team out of any series, and they are one of the best home teams in the majors. Fenway has a way of solving their offensive issues - it's done it several times this year alone. It's different than the situations LA was in the past few years, where they were down 0-2 going on the road. I wouldn't say I expect them to send it back, but it would not surprise me either. We'll just have to see.

If they get past game 3, the answer to this is now a no-brainer, they would have to bring back Lester on short rest.

I'd be tempted to switch the starters in game 3 too, from Buchholz to the far more experienced Matsuzaka. If this series were 1-1, maybe not. But they can't afford any early-game hiccups due to butterflies in a first postseason start.

OK, Ransom, or whoever else the Yankees choose from in-house options to replace A-Rod, might not be great, but Cashman would be an idiot to give up prospects in for someone in a trade just for a 6 or so week period (which is what it will be at the start of the season). If A-Rod ends up being out substantially longer, or needs more major surgery, then you start looking into trades. But you don't hurt your team in the long run to replace someone in the short run, even someone as good as A-Rod.

There is no way that this is not a bluff. Epstein and Henry are not idiots, and they wouldn't just pull out. Anyway, there are now reports that what Henry meant was simply that they would not increase their offer, not that they were pulling out completely.

The new stadium where the ticket prices are going to set record highs? It'll be interesting to see how many ordinary people actually fork over the amount of money they're gonna charge...I heard face value of tickets for a game against Boston next year is $2,000. FACE VALUE.
