It's been legal for 30 years .... unfortunately.... HS kids have a tough time in that HS refs call it very tight.... I don't think HS kids even know that you can't pick up your pivot foot....

I have to admit that Magic Johnson was allowed to palm the ball, travel and do pretty much as he pleased when I was back in LA.... of course, the non calls on Jordan, especially the pushoff against Bryon Russell are legendary....

Occasionally...and I mean occasionally.... you get a well ref'd game.... just the right mix of letting them play and calling the excessive stuff.... but most games, it's like they toss a coin before every call.... granted even HS game crowds are pretty hostile to the refs.... so I would never do it myself.... but still, with three refs on the court my son gets shoved from behind completely into the wall on a breakaway layup and the ball goes flying and no call??.... did they think he was a special needs kid that just went all spastic all of the sudden and couldn't finish the layup.... stuff like that is constant....

When my son was younger he played some tournament soccer.... I was really shocked at the tactics that seemed to be taught to some teams.... the referees weren't good enough to keep it in check, so some of the adults would start getting into it.... I'm glad we're in basketball now where everyone can join in and abuse the refs with no hard feelings....

It was the semi finals and they were winning.... a red card would get you banned from the final.... one girl threw a couple elbows at her & got in her grill to tell her "scoreboard"....

The one where she punched the girl twice and kicked her multiple times going for possession of a loose ball, was the most amazing..... that it didn't get called.... obviously pulling the girl down to the ground backwards by her hair was the most heinous....

She went the "that's not me" route (with no actual apology).... despite the fact that she took at least 1/2 dozen violent cheap shots throughout the game....

There's only one ref.... so it's easy to pull crap if you're a cheap shot artist.... but some of that stuff was on the ball.... I don't know what the ref was looking at.... she didn't even get a yellow card until almost the end of the game....
