Posted Sunday September 13, 2009, About: Why Ripken won't work for Orioles
Peter Angelos is the Marge Schott of the AL. MLB needs to develop a policy to weed out owners who make no effort (or show themselves incapabable) to improve their club and contend.
Posted Friday September 11, 2009, About: D-Backs-Dodgers deal unravels
I always thought the "player to be named later" phrase meant that the player's name would not be made PUBLIC until later. Similar to not disclosing the names of individuals killed in accidents until next of kin are notified, I had assumed that the phrase was used in instances where the player hadn't yet been told he was going to be traded. Why on earth would a team trade for a player whose name THEY don't yet know?!! This makes no sense: "Here's our guy - send us back someone YOU think is a fair trade...." Surely there's more to the process than that!
Posted Friday January 02, 2009, About: Dodgers unloading Andruw for Manny money?
"I wouldn't be surpised if he got healthy and got a second wind. I certaily wouldn't risk a lot of money on him though." jamesworthy

My thoughts exactly! How often has LA let a player go somewhere else only to watch them out perform their Dodger days? The problem is, there's no place to let AJ play himself back into respectability. Neddie C needs to get the situation fixed this time or he's probably hawking peanuts for the GiAnts after the All Star Break....
Posted Sunday October 05, 2008, About: Kent unhappy on Dodgers bench
"Jeff Kent isn't happy, or comfortable, in his role on the Dodgers' bench, BUT HE ISN'T MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT."

Most of you Kent bashers write as if he was your next-door neighbor and you know him intimately.

The one y'all ought to be dissing is the T&R editor who posts this piecemeal garbage to stir up some nonsense and make his pathetic little mark in cyberspace.

Those of you who swallow his bait--to paraphrase one of the posters here, must "live in a perpetual state of unhappiness...[and have]been that way since [you were] small child[ren]."
Posted Sunday September 21, 2008, About: Maddux off L.A.'s postseason roster?
I'd take Maddux over Penny, Kuo and maybe even Saito--if he has any hiccups this week. (Although he did great tonight.) You may not need a 5th starter in the post-season, but when you have a Greg Maddux available on a team with so many youngsters, his presence alone is an asset--especially if you are choosing against guys who may or may not be physically ready.

I predict that if the Dodgers leave Mad Dog off their PS roster, there will be that ONE situation that will come up--maybe in the World Series--where everyone will agree that Maddux would have been the perfect fit for that spot. Don't let that happen, Joe.
Posted Thursday August 28, 2008, About: Dodgers eye Rockies closer
Isn't this about the time the Rox turned the afterburners on last year and won like 22 out of 27? I guess they realize now that even IF they can do it again, they can't seal the deal.

Big Blue and the Drop 'Backs should wake up and smell the same roses: with three solid teams virtually a lock for the post-season (LAA, TB and ChiCubs) and several others fundamentally more sound (and riding some legitimate momentum), it doesn't matter who wins the NL West at this point. No one has goods to get anything significant done.

I'm a rabid Dodger fan, but I'm getting mighty tired of the "P"(otential) word...
Posted Tuesday August 26, 2008, About: Why Dodgers passed on Dunn
I agree with Skippy: How could the Reds STICK the Dodgers with Dunn? What, has MLB trading become some blind date, white elephant swap or enforcement con?

Somebody's editor seat just got real hot....
Posted Sunday August 24, 2008, About: Dodgers eyeing Sabbathia?
If CC was smart, he would fire his agent and personally interview any team that wants his services: Negotiate, haggle, offer contract money now for personal services consideration later and get a bullpen that's going to support him and they rest of the starters.

People ragged on Kobe for wanting the Lakers to put a TEAM on the floor around him--but look what happened...

An arm of Sabbathia's caliber deserves to pitch in the right rotation, and he would be wise to demand a say in the building of it.

I'd like to know just exactly what "completely inaccurate" means....
Posted Saturday August 02, 2008, About: Source: Manny asked to stay with Sox
"Within an hour AFTER" the trade is finalized he's willing to play nice?

crimexs2 is right: As a 10-5 player, he could have vetoed the trade AT ANY TIME (up until it was finalized).

If this story is true (sounds fishy, but this is T&R) then the Sox must've put up a helluva smoke screen to make Manny believe the trade wasn't going to happen.

We here in LA really don't care: Manny will be working his behind off for the next 2-3 months in order to convince MLB teams he's worth a big contract come this winter. Everyone knows, whiner or not, Manny is a brute when it comes to being ready to hit....
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Dodgers trying to get Maddux
TenRingsSTL, you could be right, but then, whoever wins the NL West, sub-.500 or not, will likely take out the winner of the Cubs/STL or MIL Div series, like last year....
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Dodgers trying to get Maddux
Baseball is a strange game--the smallest, least significant shift can put a team on a roll. Maddux would add electricity to a good team that lacks spark.
Posted Tuesday July 29, 2008, About: Angels gaining interest in Teixeira
With the best record in baseball, why would the Angels rent a player--no matter his caliber--at the cost of an integral piece of what got them where they are, and could get them there for years to come?

The only way this makes sense is if the trade is straight up (Kotch for Tex) with a multi-year contract for Tex signed.
Posted Saturday July 12, 2008, About: Tiger's injuries self-inflicted?
Hey, did anyone notice this guy has a "new book" coming out? Maybe cnn/si gets a share of the royalties....
Posted Saturday July 12, 2008, About: Tiger's injuries self-inflicted?
"Self-inflicted?" Golfers aren't tackled, fouled or tagged out at home plate, so wouldn't ANY injury a golfer have be technically "self" inflicted?

As to "non-specific training" which has "no positive influence on how he plays the game"; supposing that (training) to be his running and weight-lifting regimen, Tiger is known for being the most fit golfer on the Tour. Since he is also top-ranked (along with his unreal winning percentage, dollars won, etc., etc., how is his fitness not related to how he plays the game of golf? I suppose John Daly's drinking habits have no bearing on his game either....

That some crank would express such drivel should end his career--however sorry it surely has been. But that it was reported? C'mon guys: This doesn't even deserve the T&R page!
Posted Friday July 11, 2008, About: Dodgers GM's future in doubt
The Dodgers--no matter who owns 'em--seem to have a mental block about finding a dominant 3rd baseman, putting consistent power in their lineup, and sitting a savvy GM in the front office.

Let's pray McCourt handcuffs Colletti until after July 31--it's unlikely he'll be fired mid-season and we don't want him doing something desperate in trying to salvage his sorry tenure in the big chair.

To 'rjf': I totally agree except to say that the only "ropes" he learned from Brian Sabean were nooses.
Posted Wednesday July 09, 2008, About: Dodgers changing hitting coach
Yeah, Jack Clark was here, too. LA has a penchant for digging up a former nemesis and bringing him on board--remember how Juan Marichal finished his career as a Dodger? I agree with LAConnected (and others): we need a bat to anchor what is otherwise a decent lineup. But let's hope Colletti doesn't dredge up Bonds--let AZ have him....
Posted Wednesday July 09, 2008, About: Twins talking about Beltre
What is this; a rumor of a rumor of a memo?? Looks more like some hack wanted to make sure his keyboard was plugged in to his computer....
Posted Sunday July 06, 2008, About: Four teams chasing deal for Sabathia
Dodgers- Well, they fall out of every trade race the past 20 years.

The Brewers on the other hand have a lot of prospects and are willing to seperate from them.

CiA is Retired | 07/06/08, 10:45 AM

The Dodgers held their prospects but had to play no names and 2nd tier prospects when the vets hit the DL. The subs for the most part outplayed the "untouchables". Look for at least one of the formerly off the table players to be offered.

I wouldn't be surprised to see LaRouch/Kershaw go to Cleveland for Sabbathia.
Posted Monday June 30, 2008, About: Angels hitter on Dodgers' radar?
I'll eat my words--LA has one free agent signing that is still providing dividends: Jeff Kent. But virtually all other attempts have been of the Garciaparra variety--short-term help that ties up revenue long-term. Let's hope that Jones' surgery turns out to be the key to his resurrection. That's a deal that could still turn out okay.
Posted Monday June 30, 2008, About: Angels hitter on Dodgers' radar?
The best the Dodgers have ever done in going outside the organization to get a hitter is when they got Shawn Green--and they let him leave due to free agency. I can think of no one else--at least in the last 10 years--that LA has gotten by trade or free agency that has made an impact. Furcal looked like he was going to be a bright spot in the Dodgers' F.A .history, but he's hurt--again

The Boys in Blue have some very impressive up-and-coming bats in Loney, Kemp and LaRoche. In his 3rd year, Ethier has already proven himself a capable (heck, impressive) every day player. Martin will be a solid bat for years to come. McCourt, Colletti and Torre need to ignore garbage like "solutions" this article suggests and grow the players they've got.
