Since the whole point of the snippet T&R decided to plug is that the Yanks won't be spending 400 million I love how the story excludes the relevant fact that they had dropped more than that with contracts like Giambis coming off the books. Sure they spent a typically tremendous amount of money more than the next franchise but their payroll was actually less last year.

I agree, but that wouldn't apply to Joba. He wasn't given free reign in the minor leagues. Ryan isn't giving free reign to his MLB roster pitchers either. He is developing his young arms without looking at pitch count.

The Yanks are doing this based on their research that shows if you extend a pitchers arm 30% or more innings greater than the previous season the long-term damage is almost inevitable. I don't like it but there is evidence to support their claim and they don't want to ruin the guy.

The thing that bothers me though is this innings limit bullcrap. One inning could be 10 pitches, another could be 30. A 5 inning outing could be 104 pitches, an 8 inning outing could be 110. If they want to put some sort of limit on a guys arm it should be total pitches not innings pitched.

Hit him twice. Tex afterward made it clear that while he was on the Rangers he couldn't stand the guy because he didn't like pitching to good hitters and would routinely plunk em. On purpose or not doesn't matter, the guy leads the league in hit batters since 02 or 03.

And joec, he pulled the same crap while he was on the Phillies. Padilla just doesn't like throwing to good hitters.
